PAY AND BENEFITS

Annual Pay Range: $71,692.50 - $91,032.83

Hourly Pay Range: $34.467546 - $43.765783

Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

Clackamas County is searching for a motivated, detail-oriented and quality-focused Transportation Construction Inspector (classified as Engineering Technician 3) to join our dynamic, high performing Transportation Engineering and Construction team.

If selected for this advanced journey-level position within the Engineering Technician series, you will be responsible for inspection of capital construction projects related to roads, bridges, storm drainage structures, and traffic control devices. Additionally, your responsibilities will include reviewing civil engineering plans and special provisions for compliance with county roadway standards and accepted engineering practices as well as participating in the design and preparation for public works projects, including computing bid quantities, writing specifications and estimating costs. You may also have an opportunity to lead and train lower-level technicians in the inspection of roads, bridges, storm drainage structures or traffic control devices.

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

A minimum of two (2) years of experience inspecting construction of roads, bridges, storm drainage infrastructure, and/or traffic control devices

Experience working with and maintaining accurate legal records related to basic construction inspection processes

Experience performing geometric and trigonometric computations, triangulations, and data adjustments

Experience providing excellent customer service to the public as well as to other external and internal stakeholders within various levels of organization

Experience communicating technical information both orally and in writing to a wide range of audiences, including citizens, fellow employees, management and/or representatives from other local agencies

Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

A minimum of three (3) years of experience inspecting construction of roads, bridges, storm drainage infrastructure, and/or traffic control devices

Current ODOT General Inspection Certificate or other ODOT inspection certificates

Experience inspecting construction projects with federal aid funding and developing materials quality documentation

Associate's Degree or higher in Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology

Experience reviewing Capital Project construction plans and special provisions

Erosion and Sediment Control Lead training and certification

Experience with AutoCAD software

Lead work experience that may include leading projects, programs or initiatives, or leading the work of others, such as providing daily work direction and/or scheduling, assigning work, checking completed work, and training

TYPICAL TASKS

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Performs complex technical computer-aided design work; performs records research, advanced geometric computations, triangulations and adjustment of contract plans.

Performs lead technical inspection work; may lead the work of and train lower level technicians in the construction inspection of grading, utilities, surfacing, paving, drainage installations, bridges and other structures; computes bid quantities, writes specifications and estimates costs.

Responds to and investigates complaints of drainage issues and work zone safety issues.

Performs an independent review of civil engineering plans and special provisions for compliance with County roadway standards and accepted engineering practices.

Under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer, participates in the design and preparation of plans and specifications for public works projects including computing bid quantities, writing special provisions, and estimating costs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Field activities include moderately strenuous physical work, and incumbents may encounter adverse environmental conditions, such as inclement weather and traffic hazards.

Duties require frequent standing, walking, squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching, digging, balancing, fine motor control, and the ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds, push 50 pounds, and pull 70 pounds. Duties also involve frequent exposure to loud noises, vibration, slippery and/or uneven surfaces, exhaust fumes and dust, oil and chemicals, traffic hazards, and adverse weather conditions.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position is included in the County's alternate workweek program, working 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Fridays off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.

This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
