The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with a proactive approach to maintenance and a commitment to operational excellence. Our experienced Sr. HVAC Technician will operate, inspect, and maintain critical systems and equipment in our Data Center environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with air-cooled chillers and demonstrate expertise in HVAC systems while being multi-skilled in other areas to ensure efficient operations, minimize downtime, and maintain energy-efficient and safe conditions.
What is your day-to-day?
Maintenance:
- Utilize critical environment protocols and Method of Procedure (MOP) processes.
- Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on HVAC systems, with a focus on air-cooled chillers, CRAC units, and associated equipment.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all HVAC systems, including but not limited to air-cooled chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and air handling units.
- Demonstrate proficiency in building automation systems, particularly those controlling HVAC operations in data center environments.
- Conduct regular inspections of HVAC equipment, emphasizing air-cooled chiller performance and efficiency.
- Stay updated on the latest HVAC technologies and best practices for data center cooling.
Safety:
- Complete Hazard Assessments related to HVAC operations and maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Identify and propose solutions for potential safety hazards, particularly those related to HVAC systems.
- Maintain compliance with relevant HVAC codes and regulations.
- Complete all required safety training, including specific modules on data center HVAC operations.
Administrative:
- Utilize CMMS systems to document all work performed, with detailed notes on air-cooled chiller maintenance and repairs.
- Provide timely updates on work order status and equipment performance.
- Escalate HVAC-related issues to management and clients promptly.
- Participate in work and safety meetings, offering insights on HVAC system improvements.
- Assist in developing and updating HVAC maintenance procedures and schedules.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces typical of data center environments.
- Capable of working in variable temperature conditions, from extreme cold in data halls to potential heat near HVAC equipment.
- Able to climb ladders up to 30 feet while carrying necessary tools.
- Available for on-call work to address emergency HVAC issues.
Desired experience and technical skills -
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of technical experience in HVAC systems, with at least 4 years specifically in data center environments.
- Proven expertise in maintaining and troubleshooting air-cooled chillers.
- Strong background in CRAC unit maintenance and repair, particularly Liebert systems.
- Universal EPA 608 Certification.
- Experience with building automation systems used in data centers.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in critical environments.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including CMMS systems, Word, and Excel.
- Relevant HVAC certifications or licenses as required by local authorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or higher in HVAC technology or related field.
- Additional certifications such as DCEP (Data Center Energy Practitioner) or CDCP (Certified Data Centre Professional).
- Experience with energy efficiency optimization in data center HVAC systems.
- Knowledge of electrical systems and their interaction with HVAC equipment in data centers.
