Responsible for performing various mechanical tasks involving; full line diagnostics, repair, modification, fabrication, maintenance and electronic record keeping of on/off road vehicles and equipment.
Removes, disassembles, inspects, and replaces components of assigned equipment, overhauls, reassembles, and reinstalls various parts as needed.
Performs a wide range of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs on gasoline and diesel-powered, as well as non-powered, equipment.
Utilizes advanced diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems; conducts road tests to ensure repair completeness.
Uses computerized systems related to vehicle maintenance, fueling/electronic interfaces, and inventory management.
Designs and implements equipment modifications to improve performance or address operational issues; operates electric and acetylene welding equipment as required.
Provides training and mentorship to Mechanic I and Mechanic II personnel.
Performs all essential duties associated with any equivalent or lower-level Bargaining Unit classifications
Strong knowledge of standard methods, tools, diagnostic equipment, materials, and procedures used in equipment maintenance and repair.
Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and circuit diagrams.
Capable of diagnosing issues and determining appropriate corrective actions.
Willingness and ability to work in adverse environmental conditions.
Conducts skilled maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment assigned to the Engineers Office.
Diagnoses and performs complex repairs or overhauls, including inspecting, disassembling, and replacing faulty components; develops necessary modifications for improved functionality.
Carries out vehicle safety inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on light and heavy-duty equipment.
Provides guidance and informal training to junior-level staff on best practices in vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Participates in snow and ice control operations on County roads and bridges; during inclement weather, snow and ice management takes precedence over all other
responsibilities, as directed by the Fleet & Facilities Manager.
Performs other duties as assigned or required, consistent with the scope and level of the position.
High school diploma or G.E.D; 3 years experience in vehicle, or light or heavy line equipment maintenance.
Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement (or ability to obtain within 18 mos. of employment)
ASE Certification in Electrical, Brakes, Steering, Suspension, and Gas or Diesel Engines, or as required by IBT collective bargaining agreement.
