Please apply online at BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Manager, Maintenance and Operations, perform journeyman-level skilled plumbing work in the repair, installation and maintenance of institutional plumbing fixtures, systems, lines, heaters, appliances and equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by completion of an approved apprenticeship program in field of specialty and four years journey-level plumbing experience.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license.
Valid Backflow Certification issued by an authorized agency.
THE EXAMINATION: Exam Weight Supplemental Questions: Qualifying Written Examination: 30% Performance/Oral Examination: 70%
The supplemental questions to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying.

An eligibility list will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the list.

Examinations and interviews held to create the eligible list will be conducted virtually, using different online/internet platforms that require video recording or conferencing capabilities, as well as access to a computer with an internet connection and basic Microsoft Office Suite Software.

The virtual written examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of June 23rd. The performance/oral exam interview is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 7th. You will be contacted via email, as indicated on your application, regarding your ability to participate in the examination phase of this recruitment.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Install, maintain and repair potable water systems; install faucets, flush valves, electronic touch-free fixtures, drinking fountains, pipes, valves, pumps and mixing valves. Dig trenches, measure, cut, bend, thread, fuse and join tubing and pipes using industry standard methods such as brazing, soldering and pressing pipes.

Install, repair and test backflow prevention devices. Consult with city and county officials on backflow prevention and correction or elimination of hazards; ensure compliance with appropriate county health and other codes.

Install, maintain and repair wastewater systems; install toilets, strainers, traps, cleanouts, interceptors, indirect and direct waste and pipe; troubleshoot and perform repairs to sewer lines including clearing debris and replacing missing or damaged covers and valve boxes.

Install, maintain and repair natural gas systems; install valves, pipe, lab gas turrets, flex lines; inspect and repair worn out or loose fixtures and potential gas leaks; prefabricate flanged and welded pipes; replace gas lines as required.

Install, maintain and repair equipment; install boilers, ISIMET gas controllers, water heaters , and pressure washers.

Install, maintain and repair hot water supply systems; install a variety of fixtures used to provide hot potable water including water heaters, boilers, pumps, pipe, valves, clocks and relays; inspect and repair leaks, obstructions and general system failures.

Troubleshoot and repair complex electronic and electrical circuitry relating to boilers, tank-less water heaters, touch-free plumbing fixtures and ISIMET utility controllers; utilize schematics, ladder diagrams, digital volt meters, slack tubes manometers and soldering stations; resolve system failures and issues.

Repair and maintain fire sprinkler systems; repair leaks in pipes, fittings, valves, post indicator valves, controls, risers, back-flows, hydrants, outside stem and outside screw and yolk valves and heads; perform routine inspections as required by the local fire department and make necessary repairs.

Perform a variety of technical work pertaining to the installation of irrigation systems; assist the irrigation technicians with questions regarding proper tie-ins to the potable water supply systems; assist with troubleshooting of problems of these systems and repairs as needed.

Install, maintain and repair storm drain systems; install pipe, fitting, basins, and covers; inspect for debris blocking the normal flow path into the system; test trouble areas to assure proper drainage during the winter months; clear blockages in the drain lines and replace damaged components.

Provide technical assistance to outside contractors; provide contractors with specifications, plans and site locations related to specific projects.

Assist other maintenance personnel performing unskilled and semi-skilled duties in other maintenance tasks; provide technical information as required.

Communicate with other departments and staff regarding plumbing activities and problems; confer with outside agencies concerning certifying of equipment or devices and concerns related to the water supply; respond to systems related emergency calls as necessary.

Operate and maintain a variety of specialized power and hand tools, heavy equipment and plumbing equipment; drive a vehicle to conduct work.

Maintain a variety of records and prepare reports related to assigned activities.

Coordinate and provide work direction to assigned helpers.
