The Office of Technology Management (OTM) is seeking applicants experienced in intellectual property law and procedures and Federal compliance aspects of inventions arising from Federally-funded research to join the Office as an Intellectual Property and Contract Coordinator. The Intellectual Property and Contract Coordinator will work closely with the Office's patent coordinators in managing all aspects of intellectual property generated by UIC researchers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Screening all incoming legal correspondence and docketing of all deadlines in OTM's central database.

Managing all aspects of Federal Bayh-Dole compliance related to University inventions including obtaining relevant information from OTM's central database system and/or the appropriate individual(s) and entry of the information into the Federal iEdison database.

Uploading legal correspondence into OTM's database.

Entry of patent application data into OTM's database and monitoring of application status.

Managing formal document preparation and execution (Declarations, Assignments, Powers of Attorney).

Assisting with the processing of invoices for legal services.

Generating of reports from the OTM database and word processing and/or data entry into spreadsheets or the database as required.

Maintaining and organizing patent case files including copying, preparing file folders, creating file labels, etc.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Bachelor's or Associate's degree.

Preferred

Bachelor's or Associate's degree in business, science or engineering.

Admission to the US patent bar or preparation for the USPTO agent exam.

At least two years of intellectual property administrative/paralegal work experience in a law firm, an in-house legal department, a consulting firm, or comparable experience elsewhere.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Working knowledge of foreign and domestic patent, copyright and trademark laws and procedures.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with outside counsel and all levels of professionals and staff within the office.

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Excellent docket review skills and proofreading skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

Critical thinking skills

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a Full Time academic professional position. The expected start date is 7/1/2025. Sponsorship for Work Authorization is not available for this position.

The budgeted salary range for the position is $75,000.00 - 95,000.00. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
