Project Manager, Process Efficiency - Power Delivery Project Support

WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE & TRAVEL

  • This position is flexible to be located in either Atlanta, GA (Forest Park office) or Birmingham, AL (The Energy Center)

  • Some relocation assistance may be available if the successful candidates does not already live within a reasonable commute distance.

  • This position will require a moderate amount of travel (approximately 25%), primarily between Atlanta and Birmingham.

JOB SUMMARY

The primary role of this new position will be to lead initiatives to achieve organizational consistency in process and efficiency in scoping, conceptual design, and cost estimating. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in creating, standardizing, and documenting efficient processes across multiple engineering disciplines, developing and overseeing the onboarding and technical training program for both employees and contract vendors, and creating, tracking, and reporting organizational and project metrics. This position requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to ensure successful implementation of initiatives and continuous improvement.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Engineering or Engineering Technology is preferred

  • Project Management Professional or other relevant Project Management Certification is preferred

Experience:

  • Prior experience as a Project Manager is required

  • Prior experience in transmission design and project cost estimating is strongly preferred

  • Prior experience in developing and overseeing training programs is preferred

  • Prior experience leading people, teams, projects, and initiatives in a technical organization is preferred.

  • Prior experience presenting information to audiences of diverse experience and seniority levels is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven ability to successfully implement and lead safe work behaviors in the workplace.

  • Proven ability to build consensus and achieve results through the effective use of persuasive communication and formal presentation skills.

  • Time management and organizational skills to manage multiple projects with various priorities and competing deadlines.

  • Strong technical writing and editing skills with the ability to produce formal documentation for organizational processes and guidelines.

  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills, as well as planning and problem-solving skills

  • A working knowledge of the Transmission Phase Gated process and general knowledge of transmission design and project cost estimating processes with the ability to facilitate standardization.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products and Project Management software applications as well as a working knowledge of various computer applications (STOMP, TEAMS, PowerBI, Enterprise Foundations and other accounting systems, Power Plant, Maximo, etc.).

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement standardized business processes across the organization to ensure consistency and efficiency.

  • Create comprehensive documentation for all processes, ensuring they are easily accessible and understandable for all team members.

  • Design and oversee a robust employee and contract vendor onboarding and training program to educate team members on standardized processes and best practices.

  • Continuously evaluate and improve processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness across multiple disciplines.

  • Work closely with various departments, including Engineering, Project Management, and Business Operations to ensure seamless integration and alignment of processes.

  • Manage initiatives from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.

  • Maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholder organizations providing regular updates on project status and progress.

  • Lead efforts to create a data-centric, data-driven Project Support organization - define metrics, data needs, business process changes and reporting requirements. Engage other organizations to develop the tools needed to support this effort.

  • Facilitate efforts to continuously improve our Estimating Tools, i.e., Develop a parametric database, Labor and Material updates to the TEAMS Library, TEAMS application enhancements.

  • Provide work direction and oversight for supplemental staff as needed.

  • Participate in, support, and lead as appropriate, Southern Company Transmission activities and initiatives.
