ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Public Works Department strives to improve the quality of life in Phoenix through the efficient delivery of outstanding solid waste, fleet, facilities, and energy management services.
The Public Works Department is looking for an Equipment Shop Foreman to be the first line supervisor responsible for overseeing mechanics in the day-to-day preventative maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
Foremen are responsible for:
- Interacting with customers regarding maintenance and repair activities.
- Assigning repair work to mechanics or contracted vendors.
- Diagnosing complex problems and performing supervisory responsibilities.
- Timely and accurate billing of equipment repairs within the Fleet Management System, M5.
- Reviewing and approving outside labor quotes.
- Reviewing and correcting employee labor time and payroll exceptions.

- Possesses strong written and communication skills as well as training in Human Recourses, Equipment and Personal Safety.
- Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office products, fleet management systems, and related software.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with various levels of staff, including customers and executive management.
- Prioritizes the safety of employees and the community.
- Maintains consistency and reliability in service delivery to customers.
- Committed to continuous improvement through always seeking innovative, cost-effective, and streamlined solutions.
SALARY
Hiring Range: $35.08 to $44.77 per hour. The actual salary offer will be based on the selected candidate's experience at foreman level or higher as well as any skills, qualifications, education, licenses, training, and internal equity. (Current employees should expect to receive a standard promotional increase unless their resume includes prior experience working at or above the foreman level.)
Pay Range: $35.08 to $49.36 per hour. Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years of experience including some supervisory responsibility in the maintenance and repair of automotive and mechanical equipment as an automotive mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic or equipment repair specialist.
- Possess a class A Commercial Driver License at the time of hire.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- These positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- In addition, individuals are required to pass an Arizona Department of Transportation physical exam and possess the appropriate commercial driver's license. Pre-employment drug testing is required, and employees will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
- Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.
Experience with:
- Government fleets and fleet data collection.
- Fleet management of at least 100 units.
- Working with labor groups.
- Government fleet policies and procedures.
- Alternative fuel, CNG, and electric powered vehicles.
- Budget management.
