The Team and Job Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer/Materials Engineer to join our Failure Analysis & Prevention (FA&P) Group. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial, highly driven person with a well-rounded skill set to join the FA&P Group. The ideal person for this role will need to not only have a strong grasp of materials science and engineering but also be flexible and a strategic thinker able to take on a variety of tasks.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Successful candidate will be a materials/metallurgical engineer with a strong understanding of mechanical systems and principles of mechanical engineering, or a mechanical engineer with a strong understanding of materials/metallurgical engineering.
  • Assist with joint laboratory examinations with outside parties in the JS Held Laboratories.
  • Attend and participate in joint laboratory examinations at third party laboratories.
  • Experience analyzing scientific and technical literature and manuals.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing technical reports and opinions from others.
  • Hands on laboratory work including DSC, optical microscopy, FTIR, sample preparation for microscopy of metals, polymers and composites (sectioning, mounting, polishing and etching).
  • Operate and maintain laboratory and machine shop equipment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years' experience in failure analysis and root cause determination.
  • Minimum BSc and MS in materials science and engineering, metallurgical engineering, polymer science, mechanical engineering, or related fields.
  • Highly organized and motivated with attention to detail and a proactive approach to project work.
  • Excellent technical report writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with clients, attend client meetings, and present at client meetings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Testifying experience is desirable.
  • Ability to work on interdisciplinary teams and collaborate with others.

Physical and Mental Job Qualifications

  • Ability to travel on short notice to conduct site inspections, document site conditions, collect samples, obtain witness statements/discussions with operators and other relevant persons.
  • Flexible work schedule that can accommodate occasional weekend and evening work hours as needed.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $100,000 - $195,000. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
