Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Transportation Equipment Operator I to safely relocate rail vehicles onsite using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMT) and other heavy equipment. This role involves supporting vehicle testing, preparing and securing rail vehicles for shipment, and unloading car shells using specialized tools and machinery. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in heavy equipment operation, a solid understanding of safety protocols, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

What your day may look like:

  • Move rail vehicles onsite using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMT) and various heavy equipment.
  • Support water testing on car shells and rail vehicles using Rail King.
  • Prepare and transload vehicles onto rail flat cars and tractor trailers for shipping.
  • Secure rail vehicles to flat cars using specialized tie-down methods and materials.
  • Unload rail car shells using lifting jacks, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • Follow all safety policies, Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures, and Risk Control Measures.

What you will need to thrive in this role:

  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, front-end loaders, drilling rigs, and cranes.
  • Background in industries like oil and gas, logging, military motor transport, or commercial/industrial construction.
  • Proficient in handling equipment with complex hydraulic and electrical controls.
  • Strong knowledge of safety practices related to heavy equipment operation, rigging inspections, load leveling, and center of gravity.
  • High situational awareness while operating or spotting heavy transport.
  • Demonstrates solid safety practices and strong work ethic.
  • Familiarity with industrial tools relevant to heavy equipment operations.
  • Physically capable of walking long distances on concrete in steel-toe safety shoes.
  • Able to lift heavy equipment and production parts.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Frequently walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Occasionally lift and move at most 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • The role involves frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, and outdoor weather conditions. Employees may occasionally work at heights and encounter dust, fumes, or airborne particles. The noise level is typically moderate.

This position is located in Sacramento, CA. The starting hourly range for this position is $22.29 plus 10% shift differential on 2nd shift and 20% on 3rd shift. This role offers the opportunity for overtime work based upon the needs of the business. The hourly rate may be higher or lower depending on your experience and skills.
