POSITION SUMMARY:
Environmental Works, Inc. (EWI) is seeking a proactive and experienced Safety Manager to lead our health and safety initiatives across environmental consulting and remediation and industrial service projects. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our operations not only comply with regulatory standards but also foster a culture where safety and productivity go hand-in-hand.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Optimize and execute a comprehensive company-wide safety program, ensuring alignment with OSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations.
- Promote Safety Culture: Champion initiatives that reinforce the importance of safety, encouraging proactive behavior and continuous improvement.
- Training and Development: Deliver and support engaging safety training sessions, ensuring all team members are equipped with the knowledge to perform their duties safely.
- Incident Management: Partner with the Safety Coordinator and operations team to lead thorough investigations of accidents and near-misses, analyze root causes, and implement preventive measures.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain up-to-date records, including incident files and training documentation, and prepare for regulatory inspections.
- Collaborate with Leadership: Work closely with executive management to integrate safety considerations into operational planning and decision-making.
- Conduct Site Inspections: Work with operational leaders to assess project sites to identify potential hazards, implement corrective actions, and promote safe work practices.
- Field Engagement: Spend regular time in the field actively engaging crews, reinforcing safe work behaviors, redirecting unsafe practices in the moment, and serving as a visible, trusted safety partner across all levels of the workforce.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety leadership role within environmental, industrial services, or related industry.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing effective safety programs.
- In-depth knowledge of industry regulations and safety standards applicable to operations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in safety management or relevant field a plus.
- Certifications such as CHST, CSP, or equivalent a plus.
COMPETENCIES:
- Strong communication skills, ability to engage and influence personnel at all levels.
- Demonstrates a solutions-oriented mindset while prioritizing alignment with EWI safety culture.
- Self-starter who takes initiative and has a bias to action.
- Maturity and discretion in managing confidential information.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
- Full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m
- Some flexibility in hours is required and overtime may be needed due to business needs.
- Ability to travel regularly to various project sites and office locations is required.
