Reports to: Supervisor, Maintenance Services

Primary Purpose:

To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.

Qualifications:

Education / Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Journeyman’s license
  • E-verify eligible

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  • Knowledge of tools used in carpentry work.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematic diagrams, interpret instructions and prepare simple specifications.

Experience:

  • Three years experience in maintenance

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Creates and designs cabinets and shelves for installation in school and offices throughout the district.
  • Installs Formica.
  • Installs, repairs or replaces door locks and hardware.
  • Supervises and directs a crew of carpenters or general maintenance personnel.
  • Performs concrete work and cinder block work.
  • Performs glazing duties.
  • Installs walls and doors.
  • Repairs and replaces sheetrock.
  • Installs tack boards and chalkboards.
  • Repairs cafeteria tables and bleachers
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Equipment Used:

Power Tools (drill, saw, etc.)

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to work independently, following established procedures with little supervision
  • Ability to read
  • Communicate verbally
  • Understand verbal and written directions

Physical Demands / Environmental Factors:

  • Works generally in well-lighted, air conditioned buildings.
  • Occasionally, duties require working in dirty areas without air conditioning as well as outside in undesirable weather conditions.
  • Subject to shocks from electrical wires.
  • Exposed to high level of noise and vibrations from operating machinery.
  • Continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to operate power and hand tools.
