Position Title: Technician IV - Electrician

Pay Grade: 14 Period of Employment: 12 months

Description Approved/ Revised: 5/2025 FLSA Status : Non-Exempt

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Maintenance Foreman

General Responsibilities : Oversees and maintain electrical systems and devices in working order throughout the school system; install and repair equipment/systems and devices.

Essential Duties:

  • Services, inspects, and maintains fire alarm systems, intrusion alarm systems and camera systems.
  • Assists other maintenance personnel with troubleshooting, repairs and installations.
  • Performs electrical work on lighting, circuits, electrical panels, transformers, and switch gears throughout the school division.
  • Repairs food service and custodial equipment.
  • Performs work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of structural service in remodeled buildings or building interiors.
  • Responds to emergency duty assignments on both a daily and on-call basis.
  • Maintains electrical shop area, notifying the foremen when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Trains subordinates in the proper use and operation of tools, materials, and techniques.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs school auditorium, gymnasium, and stadium sound systems.
  • Troubleshoots and repair division marquees.
  • Oversees small equipment maintenance, repair, and service.
  • Delivers excellent customer service.
  • Assists project management and compliance projects.
  • Assists with snow removal.
  • Evaluates tool and equipment needs for electrician technicians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Awareness of fire and health safety as they pertain to facilities.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of any task.
  • Ability to read and follow directions.
  • Ability to work with others.
  • Ability to do some moderate lifting and/or moving of furniture.
  • Serve as role model.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in person, electronically, and by phone.
  • Willingness to attend skills workshops and/or seminars as needed.
  • Ability to use email, and Microsoft office.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to read/understand blueprints and wiring diagrams.

Requisite Education and Experience:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia Driver License.
  • Experience with computers and software.
  • Experience with intelligent fire alarm communication framework.
  • Must possess basis diagnostic skills used to troubleshoot control systems.
  • Experience with internet protocol camera systems.
  • DPOR Journeyman Electrician Tradesman License required, Master Electrician Tradesman License preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
