Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Senior Oil and Gas Engineer (Supervisor), the Engineering Geologist will function as a Field and Regulatory Specialist within the CalGEM Central District office. The incumbent will perform activities associated with the development of natural resources both independently as well as in a team environment. As a Field and Regulatory Specialist, the incumbent is expected to conduct complex field inspections and perform difficult geologic and engineering work. The Assembly Bill 211 and associated Public Resources Code (PRC) section 3113 updates mandate, where possible, both shall and may witnessing operations take place in-person with emphasis to witnessing all operations related to critical wells, and those listed as shall witness as a priority. The incumbent will perform complex calculations, create reports, and generate graphics design using different computer applications. This position requires a high degree of knowledge and expertise in reviewing and analyzing geologic and engineering reports as well as excellent data management and communication skills.

Working Conditions
This position is located in Bakersfield and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, with employees required to work in-person at 11000 River Run Blvd, Bakersfield, CA 93311. At least three days of remote work and up to two days of in-office work per week is the available hybrid telework schedule for this position. However, effective July 1st, 2025, there is a Statewide mandate that requires a work schedule of four days in office and one day telework for all hybrid positions. Alternative work locations will not be considered
