Plant Electrician - WTP (Full-Time)

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and direction of the Lead of Electrical, repairs, maintains, and installs electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment used in the operation of water treatment and water distribution subsystems. MAJOR TASKS:
  • Plans, installs, repairs, maintains, connects, tests electrical fixtures, apparatus, control equipment and wiring for systems of alarm, communication, light, heat, and power in buildings or other structures.
  • Purchasing equipment, material and parts required and recommending spare parts for inventory.
  • Obtains proper electrical permits for any retrofits, repairs or new construction.
  • Recommend changes to existing systems and equipment.
  • Maintains and upgrades plant schematics, manuals, operating procedures and narratives.
  • Installs, programs and maintains Programmable Logic Controllers and Graphics Packages.
  • Performs the duties of an Operator, Maintenance Relief Operator or Lead of Electrical when required.
  • Participates in the Plant’s facility maintenance system and recommends changes or modifications to such systems.
  • Participates in operational and capital projects.
  • Participates in the Electrical Apprenticeship Program as directed by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent to the Ministry of the Environment certification guidelines
  • Journeyman Electrician together with an Electronics Endorsement
  • Fire Alarm Endorsement would be desirable
  • Must have proven experience with Programmable Logic Controllers, SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems and be knowledgeable in the use of computer drafting software
Skills/Abilities:
  • Must be capable of issuing and accurately comprehending written/oral information and instructions
  • Must be tactful and courteous with the public
  • Must be reliable and capable of performing routine work with a minimum of supervision
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent
  • Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
Assets:
  • Currently possess or be eligible to attain a Class III Drinking Water Operator Certificate in Water Treatment Subsystems
  • Currently possess or be eligible to attain a Class IV Drinking Water Operator Certificate in Water Distribution Subsystems
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Must maintain Journey Electrician status
  • Prior to commencing employment, must successfully write and pass an Operator-in-Training (OIT) examination and be eligible to attain a Drinking Water Operator Certificate in Water Distribution Subsystems and Water Treatment Subsystems
  • Within 18 months of hire, must complete mandatory entry level drinking water operator course for operators in training
  • Within 3 years of hire, must attain and maintain a Class I Drinking Water Operator Certificate in Water Distribution Subsystems and Water Treatment Subsystems
  • Within 6 years of hire, must attain and maintain a Class II Drinking Water Operator Certificate in Water Distribution Subsystems and Water Treatment Subsystems
  • Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (uncertified)
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
