Job Summary:
The Pipe Cutting, Grinding, and Sawing Technician is responsible for the preparation of pipes used in mechanical, plumbing, or industrial systems. This role involves accurately measuring, cutting, grinding, and finishing pipes made from materials such as steel, copper, and PVC to meet project specifications. The technician ensures that all pipe segments are cut to exact dimensions and are ready for fitting or welding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and verbal instructions to determine pipe specifications.
- Measure and mark pipes for cutting using measuring tools and templates.
- Operate manual and power tools such as saws (band saw, chop saw), grinders, pipe cutters, and beveling machines.
- Grind pipe surfaces to remove imperfections and prepare ends for welding or fitting.
- Ensure precise cuts and smooth edges to ensure proper fit and safety.
- Perform quality checks on cut materials to ensure they meet specifications.
- Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in safe working condition.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Keep the work area clean and organized to avoid accidents and maintain efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Experience in pipe cutting, grinding, or metal fabrication.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and measurements.
- Skilled in the safe use of cutting and grinding equipment.
- Attention to detail and precision.
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in standing positions for extended periods.
- Strong safety awareness.
