This project manager position is part of the mobility and curbside management team in the Traffic and Parking Services Division of Public Works. Its focused on mobility infrastructure and systems, but it also works closely with managing shared mobility providers and curbside management projects.

Work Location

This position currently works on-site only.

  • Manage the citys Mobility Hub program, including capital investments and development of new hub infrastructure and supporting programs.
  • Coordinate and act as a liaison on project activities with consultants, contractors and appropriate City Departments.
  • Manage the design, engineering and construction process for assigned projects from program development through warranty inspection, including all aspects of professional and trade contract initiation, negotiation, execution, modification payments and closure.
  • Act as the City's representative, insuring user input during program development and design, ensuring compliance with the Uniform Building Code, construction documents and accepted standards of workmanship.
  • Assist in the public procurement process, i.e., bidding requirements, pre-award, approval and contract execution process.
  • Build and participate on teams to delivery pilots and test new concepts for various projects from inception to completion, assisting them in clearly identifying problems and the scope of solution with the cost implications, including coordinating the role of project management.
  • Represent the City in a technical capacity in meetings and on various committees.
  • Identify business trends and best practices to be implemented.
  • Ensure project labor harmony and assist in representing the City on claims and labor issues.
  • Assist in negotiation of easement agreements related to construction projects.
  • Work closely with the City Attorney's Office during various phases of projects assigned.
  • Obtain construction estimates and develop and manage project budgets.
  • Assist in the preparation of professional service contracts and amendments to contracts.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office setting with some fieldwork

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in public administration, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Engineering, Finance, Technology Management or equivalent

Minimum Experience:

Five years experience of related experience performing progressively responsible professional managerial duties

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

Selection Process

The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination 100%. It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score 70% on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

Background Check

The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Eligible List Statement

The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire one month after it has been established.

Interview Selection

The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidates education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.
