The Professional Development Manager will ensure that students are career-ready when they begin their employment opportunities. This role involves hosting professional development workshops, managing a volunteer engagement calendar, and organizing special events geared toward preparing students for the workforce. Additionally, the position includes assisting students with resume writing, interview preparation, and other skills essential for a successful entry into the professional world.
Successful candidates will be self-starters who have a proven track record of success and can lay a strong foundation for helping students prepare for their careers.
This position is a hybrid requiring work from office, home, and attendance at in-person events. Office requirements may change with company policy.
Responsibilities
Student Professional Development
- Work one-on-one with students to develop resumes, interview skills, and professional best practices.
- Help students create career maps based on their interests, talents, and professional goals.
- Conduct career readiness workshops on topics such as interviewing, LinkedIn, and professional networking.
- Manage the professional development calendar and coordinate communication with guest presenters.
- Support national initiatives such as NPowerMATCH (mentorship program).
- Escalate career coaching for trainees on action plans as needed.
- Oversee mock digital interviews with Talk Hiring Software and/or panel interviews with staff.
Administration
- Track and update student records and volunteer engagement in the Salesforce database.
- Complete weekly, and monthly database reports to ensure compliance with grants.
- Support alumni outreach to update post-program career progression.
Team Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with the Employment Engagement Manager to support students in their career and workforce readiness, including assisting with placement leads and career counseling.
- Partner with other Professional Development Managers across California and within NPower to innovate and effectively implement updated curriculum. Share best practices to enhance the overall program.
- Contribute to the design, planning, and implementation of alumni career development workshops.
- Support new partnerships with professionals from a range of technology companies. Secure professionals to participate as guest speakers, mentors, and provide experiential learning opportunities.
Skills and Abilities
- 2-3 years of experience in career services, youth development, human resources, recruitment, or professional development.
- Exceptional verbal communication, writing, and grammar skills.
- Comfort with public speaking, event planning, and facilitating workshops.
- Ability to attend and network at industry events to build partnerships.
- A passion for helping people grow, develop themselves, and better their lives and their communities.
- Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRM programs.
- Experience working with underserved young adults and or veterans is a plus.
- Dedicated to data integrity, focused communications, and continuous learning.
