Job Description

The Field Engineer will be responsible for electrical construction on a utility-scale wind farm, involving tasks such as trenching and laying AC/DC collection lines, terminations, running conduit, inverter work, and working with combiner boxes. This role requires a hands-on approach to ensure the successful completion of construction activities within the scope of work.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe operations of the job site and proper use of PPE by all personnel.
  • Assist superintendents and foremen in planning and organizing construction activities, schedule monitoring, and reporting.
  • Visually inspect all construction aspects for compliance with the scope of work and administer the QA/QC program.
  • Complete and submit QA/QC documentation, maintain accurate logs, and assist with RFI development and submission.
  • Monitor project logs to identify discrepancies in quantity and address any scope gaps.
  • Report shortages of materials and assist with change order preparation.
  • Monitor project material tracker and inspect deliveries for contract and order compliance.
  • Assist with requisition of supplies or project materials and ensure packing slips are documented and submitted to accounts payable weekly.
  • Assist in monitoring subcontractor work and communicate their progress to owners representatives.
  • Track, prepare, and send credit card receipts and weekly time cards to Accounts Payable and Payroll.
  • Compile new employee hire packets and assist with their processing, orientation, and compliance tasks.
  • Coordinate construction activities for the wind farm project, including GPS locating, documenting, and inspecting.
  • Complete all required job site QA/QC paperwork, including budget reports and various logs.
  • Communicate with subcontractors, superintendents, office staff, engineering staff, consultants, and owners representatives.
  • Attend project meetings and drive vehicles equipped with tools and materials to job sites.
  • Travel up to 100% and live in temporary lodging for most of the year.
  • Work approximately 70 hours per week, 6 days a week during construction season.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in construction management and commercial construction.
  • Experience in project management and inspection.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and work with electrical systems.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Procore.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in construction management, engineering, business administration or equivalent education and experience.
Work Environment

The Field Engineer position involves working outdoors 100% of the time, requiring presence on the job site for the project's duration. Expect to work at least 60-70 hours a week, with a monthly scheduled rotation of one weekend and three days off per month during construction season. The role involves lengthy stays in rural areas with limited amenities, and may require staying in hotels, motels, campers, or apartments.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $32.00/hr.
