Job Summary
The Project Manager, Store Construction is responsible for the planning and execution of all assigned Store Development projects. This includes new store builds, relocations, major & minor renovations, closures, infrastructure upgrades, rollout programs and emergency restorations.
The Project Manager, Store Construction provides project supervision (virtually and onsite) and will manage the scope and schedule of all related vendors, suppliers, and internal business partners to ensure a seamless and Best in Class project delivery. This role will act as the Single Point of Contact (SPoC) for any assigned project and will be required to manage relationships with all stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.
The Project Manager, Store Construction is self motivated, reliable, and highly process driven, who takes ownership and accountability for all project deliverables.
This individual is a leader who demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills with expertise in budget and schedule management and is adept at building and maintaining relationships with project team members and end-users.
This is a temporary, 1-year contract.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Executes and owns the store development process for assigned projects from initiation to close out, including final merchandising and fixture install.
- Manages the tender process for all general contractors, and associated vendors, per project.
- Plan, schedule, organize, direct, control and evaluate assigned projects in accordance with defined specifications, timelines, and budgets.
- Effectively controls and manages all costs associated with the project including merchandising, IT, security, and store fixturing/racking.
- Enforces established design standards and brand image.
- Reviews construction documents for accuracy, feasibility, and compliance with brand standards.
- Prepares and manages all required bidding, tracking, and project documentation including all vendor and internal partner deliverables and coordination.
- Manages all quality controls throughout the project and ensure all deliverables, deficiencies, and related project requirements, are delivered by the project close out milestone.
- Prepare and provide weekly construction progress reports for all stakeholders to include project timeline and budget forecasts.
- Performs regular process gap analysis to seek out efficiencies, communication opportunities, or elimination of redundancies.
- Institutes rigorous change order oversight to prevent scope creep.
- Completes final project walkthrough, including deficiency list creation, and ensures a clean, safe, handover of the project to the end user.
- Function as an advocate for store level employees/end users, by placing them at the forefront of the execution process and proactively identify and anticipate end user expectations and needs.
- Supports end users post-project through the warranty period.
- Collects and prepares all required project close out materials and manage the transition of the project from Active to Sustainment.
Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications
- College diploma or equivalent accreditation from a trade school
- Minimum of 5 years experience managing physical transformation/construction/infrastructure projects in a retail environment
- Minimum 5 years working in a management or leadership role. Working in a retail environment considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of local building codes, bylaws, and the permitting process
- Ability to read and decipher architectural, mechanical, and electrical building plans.
- Experienced in construction and architectural software such as ProCORE, AutoCAD, Visio
- Proficient in MSOffice suite, Adobe, Project Management software and similar programs
- Experience applying defined Project Management principles from Initiation to Close Out
- Expertise in schedule and project budget management
- Bilingual considered an asset.
- Project Management Certification (PMP)
- LEEDs GA Certification
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) considered an asset.

- Travel required throughout Canada up to 70% of the time. CPMs are required to travel as requested and may include short notices to travel throughout Canada for projects and to assist with other duties and functions for store openings as requested by the Director.
