Position Summary:
The Plumber performs skilled work at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures. Employees in this class are responsible for performing skilled plumbing tasks in accordance with standard practices of the trade. Work involves installing, repairing, maintaining, and servicing water, gas, and sewer systems; water and space heaters and cooking stoves; and valves, faucets, traps, sinks, and other fixtures. Supervision may be exercised by semi-skilled and unskilled laborers.
Essential Functions:
- Installs, maintains, and repairs water and sanitary systems, sittings, and fixtures
- Cuts openings in walls for pipes; cuts, reams, and threads pipe; caulks and wipes joints; pours, spreads, and shapes molten solder over joints; and installs necessary supports, hangers, and foundations for water and sanitary equipment
- Repairs and reconditions plumbing installations such as sinks, dishwashers, lavatories, sump pumps, and water waste and vent-lines
- Installs, maintains, and repairs water and sewer systems from curb lines to building interiors
- Perform otherjob-relatedduties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the plumbing trade
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the plumbing trade
- Ability to work from sketches and specifications
- Ability to observe safety precautions in carrying out assigned tasks
- Ability tounderstand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Skill in the use of the tools and equipment of the plumbing trade
Experience:
- City of St. Louis Plumbing License(required)
- Minimum of six years of Journeyman level plumbing experience
Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (required)
Physical Requirements:
- Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle
- Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
- Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree
Working Conditions and Environment:
- Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment
- Very limited or no exposure to physical risk
