We are looking for an experienced and reliable Sheet Metal Shop Fabricator with strong skills in ductwork fabrication and equipment maintenance. This hands-on position involves cutting, forming, and assembling sheet metal duct systems for HVAC and commercial/industrial applications, as well as servicing and maintaining the shop equipment used in the fabrication process.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
Ductwork Fabrication & Assembly:
Layout, measure, cut, bend, and shape sheet metal using hand tools, power tools, and metal fabrication machinery (e.g., press break, hand benders, shears, roll forming machines, Pittsburgh machine, plasma cutters).
Read and accurately interpret shop prints and field sketches.
Work with all gauges and types of sheet metal, their bend allowances, tolerances, malleability and working characteristics
Assemble rectangular, round, and custom ductwork using spot welders, riveters, and seaming tools.
Fabricate fittings, transitions, offsets, and custom components to sketches, details and specs.
Maintain quality control standards for proper sizing, sealing, and labeling of ductwork for delivery or installation for all fabricated parts to meet job specifications.
Works with dissimilar metals.
Inspect finished parts for quality and accuracy, making adjustments as necessary.
Assemble and weld metal components using MIG, TIG, or spot-welding techniques, as needed.
Track personal use of inventory of raw materials and request supplies as needed.
Learns all the equipment of the shop and how to use the computer to program parts and layouts.
Equipment Maintenance & Shop Support:
Perform maintenance and minor repairs on fabrication equipment and shop tools.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, or pneumatic issues with machinery.
Ensure machines are calibrated and function safely and efficiently.
Assist with inventory of materials, sheet metal stock, and hardware.
Keep the shop clean, organized, and in compliance with safety protocols.
Work in the field as needed.
Physical Abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs or more.
- Capable of standing, bending, and working on feet for 8+ hours per shift.
- Occasionally required to push, pull, climb, or balance during tasks.
- Operate fabrication machinery with precision.
- Maintain and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection and steel-toe boots at all times.
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school certification or technical training is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in sheet metal fabrication or a similar manufacturing role.
- Familiarity with shop layout optimization and material handling.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and installation practices.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication techniques, tools, and equipment.
- Basic mathematical skills for measurements and calculations.
- Forklift certification is preferred.
