We are seeking a skilled and experienced Paving Screw Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the asphalt paving process, ensuring proper depth, width, and slope alignment while maintaining optimal communication with the paver operator and crew members. This position requires a strong focus on safety, precision, and teamwork in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set and adjust the screed to control the width and depth of asphalt layers.
- Monitor asphalt flow and temperature to ensure consistent material distribution.
- Communicate effectively with the paver operator to maintain accurate screed operation.
- Ensure a smooth, even asphalt surface by adjusting the screed as needed.
- Inspect equipment before, during, and after operation to identify maintenance needs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Paving Screwman or similar role in asphalt paving.
- Strong understanding of asphalt paving techniques and equipment operation.
- Ability to interpret project plans and specifications.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail and focus on quality.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
Physical Requirements:
- Work Environment: Outdoor asphalt paving and highway construction setting, including occasional night work, with exposure to uneven terrain, dust, dirt, and varying weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
- Proximity Hazards: Must be alert and able to work safely near construction equipment & public traffic
- Climbing: Must have the physical capability to safely climb on and off of equipment that is greater than 6 feet off the ground on uneven terrain multiple times daily.
- Balance: Including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces while carrying.
- Vision: 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions.
- Hearing: Corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions.
- Awkward positions: Getting to and from both sitting and kneeling on the ground.
- Heavy lifting: Awkward parts and equipment up to 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders, and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
