What you'll be doing:

  • Use strategic leadership to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to complete all assigned projects on time and in accordance with the documented design specifications and the Construction Program.
  • Ensure that installation-related corrections are identified and addressed before turning projects over to Operations.
  • Develop and analyze cost-effective project budgets, including all estimating from permit submission through closeout.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure timely submission of administrative tasks such as expense reports and project invoicing.
  • Communicate routinely with teams including Sight & Sound, Design, Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment (FFE), Business Management, Facilities, vendors, and Operations to provide updates and coordinate project documentation.
  • Identify and recommend new external resources, such as general contractors, who can deliver excellent results to the Company.
  • Create comprehensive, realistic schedules and timelines for all assigned projects.
  • Monitor progress and recommend plan modifications throughout the life of the project.
  • Document all project life cycle information and data within shared filing systems.
  • Collaborate on all construction program reporting plans for senior leadership and other key stakeholders.

What we need from you:

  • 5+ years of experience in construction, facility management, or a closely related field.
  • Knowledge of project management best practices involving scheduling, critical path, and dependencies.
  • Ability to travel (10-30%) to assess contractor performance and project conditions.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means & methods, materials and technologies.
  • Working understanding of construction law and current ADA guidelines sufficient to administer contracts, review options for procuring construction services, and recommend appropriate related business decisions.
  • High degree of familiarity with building codes, design practices, drawings, details and specifications.
  • Understanding of a broad range of estimating, cost monitoring and reporting tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and exposure to project management software platforms.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to solve problems independently and make timely, well-informed decisions.
  • Able to engage comfortably with senior-level associates and build productive relationships across departments through collaboration and consensus.
  • Skilled at managing multiple projects and priorities while adapting to unexpected challenges.

What we also value (preferred):

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture.
  • Construction management experience.
  • Experience reviewing and implementing construction plans and documents.
  • Experience managing multi-unit program delivery and/or facility management experience.
  • Advanced training in Excel, MS Project, or other construction scheduling software.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and solve problems, including in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to create, modify, understand and manage complex accounting spreadsheets.
  • Familiarity of how construction activities can impact the end user so programs can tailor scope and schedule to minimize disruptions and maximize revenue.

Job Summary

The Manager, Construction leads construction projects that support the Company's strategic goals, including new builds, renovations, spot acquisitions, premium large format (PLF) installations and other special initiatives. This role provides strategic direction to internal and external teams to optimize results in speed to market, cost control, and quality of construction to increase attendance, revenue, and net profit.

This position is based in Leawood, KS and is not eligible for relocation.
