POSITION SUMMARYDesigns and supervises the civil engineering process (site design, planning, and construction) to ensure the work complies with professional engineering standards, codes, and specifications. Use independent judgment and supervise subordinate staff and subcontractors, throughout the design development and construction process. Assist clients and management with the site development process (site grading, drainage, zoning, utility planning).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Other duties may be assigned.Statement of Tasks

Design and supervise the civil engineering process for clients or corporate management, applying knowledge of site design, planning, stormwater management, construction, zoning, building codes, and building materials.Sell civil engineering services to new and existing clients. Assist clients with master planning, site plan development (grading, drainage, zoning, utilities) budgeting, and committee meetings.Prepare schematic design, engineering proposals, and client correspondence.Create basic design sketches, perspective drawings, preliminary layouts, and/or working construction documents, using computer assisted drafting (AutoCAD Civil 3D) software and plotting/printing equipment.Review, evaluate and assist clients with the selection of professional services (subconsultants).Prepare municipal applications, assist client in obtaining permits, variances, code review, and the site plan approval process.Supervise subordinate design staff's drawings/construction document preparation and subconsultant work, to ensure that civil engineering standards are followed, and drawings meet expected accuracy, completeness, and quality requirements.Conduct periodic site visits to monitor projects and ensure compliance with design and client's intent.Review monthly project invoices with Design Department Manager.Assist with project close-out process (punch list and as-built drawings) as necessary.Attend applicable continuing education seminars to maintain engineering license and stay current on industry trends.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONSEducation: BA/BS Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.Experience: Prefer 8 years' experience in civil engineering with a minimum of 5 years' supervisory experience.Certificates, Licenses & Registrations: LEED - AP; Licensed Professional Engineer.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:Knowledge:

Engineering principles/practices, AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting or related experience, supervision; master planning; sustainable design, LEED - AP building practices, contracting practices, building code, zoning review, MIOSHA/OSHA guidelines, MS Office Suite software, grading, drainage, utilities, and the site plan approval process.

Skill/Ability:

Read and interpret engineering/architectural documentation.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and vendors.Provide engineering support to Project Managers and Field Staff.Prepare design fee proposals and client correspondence.Prepare municipal applications. Assist clients with permits, master planning, code review, zoning; utilities; budgeting, committee meetings, progress meetings, and site plan approval.Supervise subordinate staff from design development through project construction.Manage project design/engineering changes.Prepare accurate detailed drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D software package, plotters, and printers.Communicate effectively and conduct periodic site visits to ensure construction meets design/engineering requirements.Maintain engineering license.Out-of-town travel as required.Multi-task and establish priorities.Maintain complete, readily accessible files.
