SALARY:
$57,165.00 - $63,516.00 Commensurate with Experience
JOB SUMMARY:
This position maintains, upgrades, and troubleshoots plant electrical problems. Work involves performing maintenance, upgrades, installation, and troubleshooting of electrical components and equipment that pertain to the City's water treatment processes, structures, and assets; repairing, maintaining, or replacing electrical switchgears (breakers, starters, transformers); maintaining, connecting, and disconnecting electrical motors; and inspecting electric instrumentation and performing minor repairs. This position determines health life of critical equipment and instruments and provides solutions to pending and/or post electrical component failures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains the electrical aspects of equipment critical to operations
- Conducts preventative maintenance activities by inspecting motors, pumps, fans, and electrical distribution equipment regularly; cleaning and checking/tightening connections in electrical equipment; and using a thermal testing device.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses electrical malfunctions.
- Repairs, maintains, or replaces electrical switchgears (breakers, starters, transformers).
- Analyzes the mechanical and electrical condition of motors.
- Installs new electrical systems and devices.
- Pulls wires.
- Disconnects electricity as needed.
- Maintains, connects, and disconnects electrical motors.
- Maintains and repairs various electrical apparatus of structures
- Installs new electrical systems and devices.
- Makes additions, extensions, and or alterations in electrical systems by: installing wires; changing electrical design, plug lights, and switches; designing; and installing
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Technical school education or associate degree in electrical field from an accredited school.
- Five (5) years of related work experience.
- OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job functions.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
- Requires a NC Collection System Operators Grade I state certification (or obtaining level 1 certification within 18 months of hire) with progressive levels of certification each year thereafter.
- Requires a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of electrical circuit and electrical construction diagrams.
- Knowledge of electrical repair tools and devices.
- Skill in using electrical repair tools and devices.
- Ability to read electrical schematics.
- Ability to obtain a City driving authorization.
- Ability to follow safety directions.
- Ability to follow instructions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is medium work and requires applying 30 pounds of force frequently and exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, distinguishing among sounds, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity in data/color/observations/
equipment/inspections, and walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed working in an environment where errors on this job can lead to significant physical or mental consequences for self or others. Requires working in confined spaces, below ground including wet wells and working at heights, working under varied and adverse weather conditions; and responding to after-hour alarms subject to emergency call-back.
