The primary role of the Senior Estimator is to prepare, estimate and review plans and specifications in support of accurate scope coverage and related pricing. The Estimator is also responsible for supporting design and conceptual budgeting activities.

A day in the life:

Assist sales managers and division managers in determining what types of projects to bid.

Develop specific project bid strategies, techniques, advantages, etc. that will provide ColonialWebb with competitive bid day advantages

Review all final estimates to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation.

Participate in presentations to corporate management and clients

Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required

Review estimating procedures and practices for efficiency and consistency; provide suggestions for enhancements to Director of Preconstruction

Maintain current estimating database; ensure that commodity material pricing is at current market levels; manage estimating software updates

Interact with fabrication and operations to develop and track time studies for prefabrication

Maintain database of bid files

Control resources and expenditures consistent with overhead budgets

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

You should have:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Construction, or Construction Engineering Management

Knowledge and interest of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, accounting, cost forecasting, resource allocation, and coordination of people and resources

Ability to interpret computerized cost data, systems and load calculation programs

Proficiency with planning, scheduling, and coordinating detailed phases of projects

Ability to work independently without direct supervision

Ability to maintain a sense of urgency and remain calm when handling emergencies

Ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with teammates and external customers; Ability to manage customer relationships, perceptions and expectations

Industry experience in the same or similar field of five years

Knowledge of commercial MEP and estimating

Working knowledge of mechanical equipment, techniques, drawings, specifications, building materials, engineering standards and codes

Advanced proficiency interfacing with technology, including Microsoft Office

Ability to interpret computerized cost data, systems and load calculation programs

Proficiency with planning, conducting and coordinating detailed phases of projects

Ability to work a flexible work schedule to include varying shifts, short notice assignments, emergencies, nights, weekends and overtime (scheduled and unscheduled), as required

A valid driver's license and willing to travel to consult with customers within territory
