DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

UW Medical Center Montlake Operations & Maintenance Departmentprovided services include: 24-hour service call and operations coverage; emergency response to utility disruptions; repairs to building ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, plumbing, architectural, electrical and lighting systems; preventive maintenance; planning and coordination of utility system shutdowns.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

Perform skilled, journey-level painting work on interior and exterior of buildings

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Paint a variety of surfaces to support UW Medical Center renovation projects

Prepare surfaces for painting or finishing by scraping, sanding, washing, or otherwise removing dirt, grease, old finishes, and rust scale; remove paint from surfaces by using sanders, wire brushes, and paint and varnish remover

Apply primers, sealers, stains and undercoats with brushes, rollers, or spray-painting equipment, striping machine, etc.; paint machinery, piping, floors, and walls; apply hi-tech industrial enamels, epoxies

Drive service truck as required, load and unload materials and supplies

May operate ladder and boom trucks, and forklift

REQUIREMENTS

Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a painter; OR full journey status as a painter in a union; OR four years of applicable work experience

Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis
