Summary;

The Pipe Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all pipe installation activities on-site to ensure quality, safety, schedule, and budget objectives are met. This role leads the pipe crew, coordinates with other trades and contractors, and ensures all piping work is executed per drawings, specifications, and code requirements. The ideal candidate will have extensive field experience in pipe fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning in industrial or large commercial environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct all piping field activities, including layout, fabrication, installation, hydrotesting, and tie-ins.
  • Plan daily and weekly work activities in coordination with the construction schedule and project milestones.
  • Ensure all piping work is performed in accordance with applicable codes (e.g., ASME, API), drawings, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, QA/QC, safety, and other trades to ensure smooth execution of work.
  • Lead and manage piping crews, including foremen, pipefitters, welders, and helpers.
  • Monitor and report on productivity, progress, and manpower requirements.
  • Support quality control by overseeing weld inspections, testing procedures, and proper documentation.
  • Identify and resolve field issues, conflicts, or deviations from plans in collaboration with engineering and project management.
  • Conduct and participate in daily safety meetings, hazard assessments, and ensure use of proper PPE and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, work logs, and timekeeping for crew members.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade certification preferred.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in rigging, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
  • Experience working on industrial, petrochemical, heavy civil, or power generation sites preferred.
  • NCCER Pipefitting or similar industry-recognized credentials preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certification.
  • Deep understanding of pipe materials, fittings, welding procedures, supports, testing methods, and installation techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, spool sheets, and field layouts.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic scheduling/reporting tools.
  • Ability to solve problems and make quick, sound decisions in the field.
  • Must be able to work in physically demanding environments including lifting, climbing, and exposure to the elements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to reach, stand, walk, use fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see and perform repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • Ability to reach with hands or arms, stand, walk, use hands or fingers, grip, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl and to perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
