Summary;
The Rigging Superintendent is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all rigging activities on a construction or industrial site. This individual ensures that lifting operations are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies. The Rigging Superintendent will lead a team of riggers, signalers, and equipment operators while working closely with site leadership and safety personnel.
Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate rigging crews and subcontractors to ensure safe and timely completion of lifting and rigging tasks.
Develop rigging plans and lift plans in coordination with engineering and safety departments.
Ensure all rigging and lifting equipment is properly maintained, inspected, certified, and used in accordance with regulations.
Conduct and participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and toolbox talks.
Provide hands-on leadership to ensure work is executed in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and schedules.
Coordinate crane activities, heavy lifts, and specialized rigging solutions.
Collaborate with site supervisors, engineers, and logistics teams to align rigging operations with broader construction goals.
Monitor workforce productivity, ensure effective use of resources, and resolve any issues impacting performance or safety.
Maintain documentation and reports related to rigging operations, inspections, and crew performance.
Enforce compliance with all OSHA, site-specific, and company safety requirements.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade certification preferred.
Minimum 8-10 years of experience in rigging, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
Experience working on industrial, petrochemical, heavy civil, or power generation sites preferred.
NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) or equivalent rigging certification.
OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certification.
In-depth knowledge of rigging procedures, lift planning, and load calculations.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, lift plans, and technical drawings.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other project management tools.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Physically able to work in a construction environment, including climbing, lifting, and exposure to the elements.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to reach, stand, walk, use fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see and perform repetitive motions.
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
Ability to reach with hands or arms, stand, walk, use hands or fingers, grip, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl and to perform repetitive motions.
Ability to sit at a desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
The ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
