Job Description:
We are seeking a Project Manager to support the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) Accelerator Modernization Project (LAMP). The successful candidate must have a strong construction background and proven experience managing capital asset line-item projects under DOE Order 413.3B. This position will focus on overseeing the removal of the existing front-end of the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) accelerator, installing new radio frequency quadropole (RFQ) and drift tube linac (DTL) systems, and updating/modifying existing infrastructure systems in a highly regulated environment.
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of project lifecycle requirements within the DOE Order 413.3B and be skilled in coordinating multidisciplinary teams in high-stakes environments. This work will be performed inside the existing accelerator facility and requires a detailed execution plan to successfully complete the project during an 18 month facility outage. The systems are technically complex and installation must be precise. The work is primarily a combination of mechanical and electrical scope and requires an understanding of construction subcontracting, work planning/scheduling, and expertise with configuration control.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage DOE 413.3B capital asset projects through all Critical Decision (CD) phases.
Oversee and coordinate construction activities including equipment removal, site preparation, new equipment installation, and waste management within a LANL operating facility.
Develop and manage integrated project schedules, cost estimates, and risk management plans
Implement Project Management requirements in accordance with LANL SD-350, Project Management for Capital Asset Acquisition and Construction
Implement the requirements of LANL SD-354, Earned Value Management System Description
Monitor project cost and schedule performance and provide variance analysis reports, as needed.
Ensure compliance with all DOE, federal, and site-specific regulations and safety standards
Interface with federal stakeholders, scientists, engineers, internal project teams, and subcontractors
Prepare documentation, briefings, project status reports, and presentations to senior management and federal counterparts
Develop subcontract statements of work to support removal and installation activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
Minimum of 12 years of project management experience, with at least 5 years on DOE 413.3B projects
Demonstrated knowledge and application of DOE Order 413.3B
Strong understanding of construction methods
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Experience working in highly regulated LANL facilities (e.g., facility safety basis, procedures, radiation work, etc.)
