Job Summary

A Contract Specialist for Sponsored Programs is responsible for managing and administering research grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies, and providing support to researchers. This role involves tasks such as monitoring contracts, as well as ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and institutional policies.

Essential Job Duties

Engage in negotiations with funding agencies, industry partners, and other stakeholders to establish favorable terms and conditions for contracts.

Draft, review, and finalize contracts, including rants, cooperative agreements, and subawards, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and federal regulations

Ensure that all contracts comply with federal, state, and institutional regulations, including those related to intellectual property, confidentiality, and conflict of interest

Identify potential risks associated with contracts and develop strategies to mitigate these risks

Work closely with the institution's legal counsel, faculty, researchers, and administrative staff to understand project needs and provide guidance on contract-related matters

Serve as a point of contact for inquiries related to sponsored programs, facilitating communication between all parties involved

Oversee the implementation of contracts, ensuring that all parties adhere to the agreed-upon terms and timelines

Prepare and submit required reports to funding agencies, documenting compliance and progress on sponsored projects

Prepare and review incoming and outgoing subaward agreements by implementing the correct subaward documents, redacted Notice of Award, and applicable terms and conditions in the templates for issuance to subrecipient institutions, organizations, and industry partners.

Know the terms of subrecipient agreements for private, federal, and state funding.

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)

Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, law, public administration or a related field

A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in contract management or a related field.

(Experience within higher education or research institution is preferred)

Address and resolve issues that may arise during the contract lifecycle

Analyze complex contracts and agreements, identifying key terms and potential issues

Provide training and resources to faculty and staff on contract management processes, compliance requirements, and best practices
