Typical Schedule:Monday - Thursday 6 am - 3:30 pm, Friday 6 am - 2:30 and every other Friday off.

Position Summary:

Portland Parks and Recreation is seeking a skilled and dedicated Carpentry and Painting Supervisor to join our team. This position is critical for overseeing the maintenance and repair of City park facilities and infrastructure, including community centers, pools, golf courses, sports centers, maintenance facilities, neighborhood parks, and natural areas. The Carpentry and Painting Supervisor will work with minimal supervision to ensure that all staff tasks are performed efficiently and within established guidelines.

What you'll get to do:

  • Supervise Daily Operations:Assign and oversee the daily workload of staff, ensuring that tasks related to carpentry and painting are completed effectively and in accordance with organizational goals.
  • Project Management:Plan and manage workloads, overseeing projects of varying sizes, and creating both short-term and long-term schedules to meet operational demands.
  • Team Leadership:Lead a diverse team by providing day-to-day coordination and support, including scheduling, training, motivation, and mentoring to foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Quality Assurance:Ensure that all maintenance and repair work meet city, state, and OSHA standards by implementing safe working practices and training staff on safety procedures and proper equipment use.
  • Program Coordination:Implement, coordinate, and supervise unit programs and functions, ensuring that critical tasks are completed on time and to a high standard.
  • Compliance and Standards:Keep up with current best practices in general construction, maintenance standards, infrastructure construction, and code compliance, to guide staff effectively in their work.

To Qualify

The following minimum qualifications are requiredfor this position:

  • Experience in carpentry and/or painting at a Journeyman level, with a strong background in general construction.
  • Experiencein planning and managing workloads, with a track record of overseeing projects and creating schedules.
  • Abilityto supervise a diverse team and provide mentorship and support.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices and compliance with city, state, and OSHA standards.

Applicants must also:

  • A valid state driver's license and an acceptable driving record

Although not required, you may have one or more of the following:

  • Degree in construction technology/engineering, construction management, surveying, or related field.
  • Experience with sustainable building practices and material re-use.
  • Public works construction and maintenance experience.
  • Experience in a Supervisory Role
