Summary:
The duties performed by the Electrician II are critical and directly impact the basic function of the school building. To perform a variety of specialized and technical duties in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems. Our mission is to provide services that meet or exceed the expectation of all our customers thus ensuring a safe and encouraging atmosphere conducive to a quality education.
Electrician II reports to both the Electrical Supervisor and the Assistant Electrical Supervisor. The maximum dollar approval authority is generally $1,000.00 per purchase unless there is an operational emergency.
Essential Duties:
Maintains electrical safety for all students and personnel
Performs a variety of skilled electrical tasks involved in troubleshooting, identifying and repairing malfunctions
Installs, maintains, replaces and repairs defective electrical parts in motors, generators, pumps, telemetry equipment, electrical panels, controllers, switches, receptacles, and other facilities equipment
Installs and maintains electrical systems
Installs electrical conduit and networking raceways
Performs tests and maintain records for emergency back-up systems
Maintains inventory and acquires parts as needed to perform electrical repairs
Ability to identify, report problems and assist in the repairs of related HVAC and Plumbing equipment
Performs related duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
Minimum:
High School Diploma or GED
Electrical Journeyman or NC School Maintenance Electrician License and 2 years of increasingly responsible electrical experience
Desirable:
Graduate of Trade School or Electrical Apprentice training program
N. C. State Contractor's license with 6 years of increasingly responsible Electrical experience
Licensing / Certification Requirements: Valid Driver's License
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Knowledge of the full range of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the electrical trade
Knowledge of National Electrical Code
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
Skilled in handling multiple task and prioritizing
Skilled using computers and related software
Skilled in Troubleshooting, mechanical proficiency, effective communication, and record keeping abilities
Ability to provide training for Electrician I position
Ability to Work in extreme weather/temperatures, emergency and hazardous situations.
Ability to read and understand blueprints for construction at 90 - 100% DD for architects and engineers
Ability to understand oral and written instructions and perform with little or no supervision
Ability to diagnose problems using various techniques
Familiarity with components and parts used in electrical distribution, H.I.D. lighting, and basic electrical controls

Skills requiring repetitive motor coordination with climbing/balancing, crawling/kneeling, walking, standing, bending/stooping, lifting/carrying, grasping/ twisting, reaching, pushing/ pulling most (5-8 hours) of a normal work shift; Infrequently (2 to 4 hrs./shift) running, sitting, and finger dexterity; There is regular and frequent exposure to one or more disagreeable work and/or climate conditions, such as a hot, wet, stormy, dusty or noisy immediate work area. The work environment is sometimes uncomfortable but relief from the situation is not required during a normal work shift.
