NC 10 Hourly Non-Certiied Schedule

Summary: Assists in the assembly, installation and repair of plumbing, water flow and drainage systems in accordance with specifications and city, state and federal plumbing codes. Position requires the ability to receive and carryout instructions for repair, installation and maintenance of plumbing systems, tools, equipment and vehicles.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)

Assists with maintaining all plumbing systems within the district in accordance with local and state plumbing codes.

Fits, measures, cuts and connects pipes and fittings according to pipefitting principals and techniques including soldering, welding, threading, screw-socket, crimping and pressing.

Operates heavy equipment including skid loaders, track hoe, dump truck, pump truck and high power sewer cleaning equipment.

Identifies, records, repairs and performs maintenance on fire hydrants within the district.

Performs maintenance and repairs on irrigation systems.

Maintains records for the procurement card.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Minimum

High school diploma or GED

Desirable

High School supplemented by specialized training or some college courses

6 months plumbing experience

Licensing / Certification Requirements: Valid Driver's License; Ability to obtain or possession of a Mecklenburg County Journeyman's Plumber Certificate; or, a State of North Carolina Plumbing License or Technician License; State of North Carolina Fire Sprinkler License M-1 desirable; commercial driver's license (CDL) desirable.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Knowledge of pipefitting theory and techniques and skill in the application of pipefitting techniques.

Knowledge of heavy equipment operations and maintenance.

Knowledge of OSHA guidelines.

Knowledge of trade related materials and tools and their proper use.

Knowledge of State of North Carolina Plumbing Code.

Ability to read basic blueprints

Physical Requirements:

Skills requiring repetitive motor coordination with finger dexterity most (5 to 8 hours) of a normal work shift

Required to exert physical effort part (up to 4 hours) of a normal work shift in handling objects over 30 pounds

Continuously handle/work (5 to 8 hours) with biohazards or risks for potential job-related injury

Exposure to blood borne pathogens, corrosive chemicals, high powered lasers, solid waste, caustic materials and sewer gases.
