The Building Operations Services Section (BOS) of the Facilities Management Division (FMD) is looking to hire (2) Career Service journey-level Facilities Carpenters , as well as create a list for future opportunities. We are looking for someone that cares about providing excellent customer service and enjoys working on a team. Our ideal candidate will have journey-level carpentry experience performing maintenance, repair, and construction work in large facilities. In addition to performing general carpentry duties, roofing, masonry, and lock repair and maintenance experience is highly desirable.

WHO ARE WE?
BOS maintains approximately 3 million square feet in facilities where King County provides regional services, including the King County Courthouse and District Courts, Maleng Regional Justice Center, King County Administration Building, King County Animal Shelter, and several of Public Health facilities. Our facilities range in age from 8 to 100 years, with equipment such as boilers, chillers, DDC controls, ventilation fans, pumps and compressors, and fire/life/safety systems.

  • Maintain concrete and masonry structures, including sidewalks.
  • Repair all structural components of buildings and other aspects including, guardrails, fences, decks, floors, walls, ceilings, and roofs.
  • Maintain and repair roof, wall, ceiling and floor coverings including drywall, roofing, acoustical tiles and siding.
  • Install and repair doors, windows and related hardware, including lock mechanisms, closures, keying systems and re-glazing.
  • Build, install, repair and maintain finish materials including cabinets, millwork, tile, plastic- laminate, furniture, partitions.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of carpentry hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Providing excellent customer service to the Division's clients and King County Customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Completion of a verifiable apprenticeship program or two (2) years or more of full-time paid experience as a journey-level carpenter.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics formulas and construction terminology.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Knowledge of the qualities, grades, uses and adaptability of various woods, wood products & related materials used in all types of carpentry.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment used in the trade.
  • Skill in completing time and materials estimates.
  • Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing.

POSITION INFORMATION:

  • This recruitment is open to the general public, however King County Career Service union members interested in a lateral transfer will be considered first.
  • This recruitment is an effort to fill our immediate vacancies as well as create a hire list that will be used for any positions that become vacant within the next 6 months.
  • This position is required to be on a paid rotating standby list for non-duty days such as weekends and holidays.
  • Reporting location will be the Maleng Regional Justice Center Kent, WA . Service and coverage responsibility may be multiple King County locations.
  • Standard shift will be Monday Friday, 6:55 AM - 3:25 PM. The shift is subject to change based on operational needs.
  • The Carpenter I position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and therefore overtime-eligible.
  • Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 40-hour workweek; schedule and work location are to be determined.
  • Incumbents in these positions are represented by the Joint Crafts, Council, Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters, 30 .
  • The selected applicant must also possess a valid Washington State driver's license or the ability to travel throughout King County in a timely manner in a variety of County vehicles.
  • Final appointment is contingent upon successfully passing a thorough federal and county background investigation, a reference check, and clearing a pre-employment physical examination.
  • This position has been designated as a First Responder , which means that you have a role in emergency response and are responsible for the protection and preservation of life, property, evidence, environment, and/or the restoration of order.
