Large utility is looking for a Project Engineer in Hamilton, MI. The Project Engineer leads and supports the engineering, coordination, and execution of natural gas compressor station projects, ensuring safety, compliance, quality, and efficiency from design through construction and commissioning. responsibilities:
  • Provide engineering support for project development activities (feasibility studies, conceptual design, cost estimates).

  • Oversee detailed design work done by external Engineers of Record.

  • Review engineering drawings and calculations.

  • Develop technical specifications and bid documents.

  • Lead technical evaluations of bids for engineering, equipment, and construction contracts.

  • Ensure clear and effective technical communication with stakeholders.

  • Conduct shop inspections to ensure quality and specification compliance.

  • Perform field engineering during construction and resolve on-site issues.

  • Support testing and commissioning of new equipment/facilities.

  • Analyze and recommend solutions to technical problems during execution or operation.

  • Assist in schedule and budget development with project management and controls teams.

  • Attend project coordination meetings and contribute to team planning.

  • Participate in project closeouts and documentation turnover.
Required Skills:

  • Experience with natural gas compressor station design, construction, and/or operations.

  • Ability to review designs for compliance with standards, codes, and constructability.

  • Knowledge of: Federal & State Gas Safety Standards (e.g., CFR 49 Part 192, MGSS), ASME Codes & Standards (e.g., B31.3, B31.8, BPVC) and API Standards (e.g., API 5L, API 6D, API 1104)

  • Experience procuring engineered materials and services.

  • Skilled in preparing and coordinating contract documents, including RFPs, drawings, and specifications.
Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

  • Minimum 5 years of applied engineering experience post-graduation.
