    Ames CSD is seeking an HVAC Technician. Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the HVAC Technician (M8) will be responsible to coordinate with Building Automation System supplier to monitor, manage and maintain equipment and systems, including but not limited to boilers, HVAC equipment, chillers, water softeners, exhaust and supply equipment, DDC controls, actuators, controllers, contactors for heat exchangers, geothermal well systems and related equipment. The primary duties will include troubleshooting HVAC issues, performing repairs and maintenance within the District. This position works closely with other maintenance staff, administrators, and external contractors to ensure a safe and functional environment conducive to the educational needs of students and staff.

    Schedule: Full-time 7:00am-3:30pm, 255 day-calendar (year-round)

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
    • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves issues promptly to minimize disruptions to school operations.
    • Works with the Director of Facilities to support projects from inception to completion, including planning, scheduling, and coordination of resources. Projects may include systems upgrades, renovations, and new installations.
    • Performs preventative maintenance inspections and keeps accurate records.
    • Responds promptly to HVAC and other system emergencies, equipment failures, and other safety-related incidents to minimize disruptions.
    • Occasional snow removal, fill-in custodial if needed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications:
    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • One year certificate from college or technical school; or one to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Must possess HVAC Mechanical Journeyperson License, and a valid driver's license.
    • Ability to read, interpret, understand, and implement communications both written and verbal such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operator Certificate
    • Understand use of HVAC and other equipment control computers and software.
    The successful candidate will exhibit:
    • Thorough knowledge of regulations, and safety standards
    • Proficiency in troubleshooting HVAC related systems and conducting repairs.
    • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to work well independently and with others in a team environment.
    • Ability to use various computer programs to manage DDC controls, work orders, email, training programs, time sheet, spreadsheets, word processing, etc.
    • Consistent and punctual basis work attendance.
