We are looking for a skilled and experienced Stair Builder / Carpenter to join our team. This is a mid- to senior-level position focused on the design, fabrication, and installation of custom stair systemsboth interior and exterior. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in woodwork and finish carpentry, with particular attention to precision, structural integrity, and craftsmanship.
This role includes time in our shop for fabrication and finishing, as well as on-site fieldwork for installation.
Responsibilities:
Shop Work:
Interpret architectural drawings and measurements to fabricate custom stair components
Cut, shape, and assemble stringers, treads, risers, railings, balusters, and newels
Use woodworking machinery and hand tools safely and accurately
Pre-fit and finish materials as needed to prepare for seamless installation
Field Work:
Install stair systems, railings, and trim with a high level of precision
Take field measurements and make adjustments for site conditions
Ensure all work meets structural and safety standards
Collaborate with clients, contractors, and other crew members to keep projects on schedule
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site
Qualifications:
5+ years of professional carpentry or stair-building experience
Proven ability to build and install wood stair systems (straight, curved, or custom)
High level of finish carpentry skill and attention to detail
Proficient in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and site plans
Comfortable operating standard woodshop tools and machines
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or in a small team
Able to lift 75 lbs and work on ladders or in tight areas as needed
Preferred (But Not Required):
Experience with metal or cable railing systems
Knowledge of local building codes related to stairs and railings
Familiarity with CAD or stair design software
