POSITION TITLE: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

FLSA: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent

BEGINNING: July 1, 2025

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 Days and benefits will be specified in the employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on the actual start date.

LOCATION: Service Center

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree required, Doctorate preferred.
  • Experience as a building principal and as a district level administrator preferred.
  • Arkansas Administrator license and District Administration license required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Develops, oversees and manages day-to-day operations of educational programs and services for the district. Plans, develops and implements functions related to curriculum, instruction and professional development.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Leads the strategic planning, development, and implementation of high-quality curriculum and instruction through collaborative leadership that supports continuous improvement across all schools.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Provides leadership in planning and conducting curriculum studies including special programs for new courses, funding staffing requirements and curriculum impact.
  • Participates in the selection of textbooks, instructional software and online resources and provides guidance concerning all instructional material usage.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of curriculum and instructional programs in all academic areas.
  • Keeps staff informed of the latest trends in educational research and the application of new technology in curriculum and instruction.
  • Assists in the development of the district Professional Development Plan.
  • Assists in oversight of the professional development activities as they relate to district and state initiatives in curriculum and instruction.
  • Assists in analyzing student achievement data to develop strategies for improving student achievement.
  • Assists with planning and conducting meetings with the curriculum and instruction team, principals and/or teachers concerning curriculum and instruction.
  • Evaluates the ESOL, GT and Special Education programs and their director.
  • Oversees the instructional budget.
  • Assists in the hiring of building level administrators.
  • Oversees the evaluation of directors and principals and other personnel as assigned.
  • Assists in the planning and opening or expanding of facilities and their programs.
  • Prepare and deliver written and oral presentations on student academic achievement and curriculum and instruction issues to the school board, principals, teachers, parents, and community groups.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Must have the ability to travel to other buildings as required.
  • May work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people.
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance and demonstrates the ability to maintain positive professional working relationships with others.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting.
