Job Description Summary:

Under general direction, to oversee shop and equipment operations and maintenance, to coordinate safety training for use of equipment and fleet, to coordinate and administer purchasing and maintenance of equipment, and to perform related duties as required.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIE S

Coordinates and completes the maintenance and servicing of G olf equipment and machinery and performs contracts for maintenance and repair work on a variety of equipment. This includes the following:

  • Assesses needs and develops bid specifications for purchasing of G olf shop and field support equipment.

  • Trouble shoots, diagnoses and determines repair and maintenance needs for gas/diesel, electronic and hydraulic systems and equipment including hand and riding mowers, chain saws, sprayers, trimmers, post pounders, snowplows, tractors, trucks, lifts, pumps, agricultural implements and associated equipment.

  • Establishes and implements preventive maintenance program. This includes coordinating cycled preventive maintenance performed by maintenance crews on their own equipment and requires assigning work times and space, providing instruction and ensuring that equipment is in good repair.

  • Performs repairs, when not using contractors or service providers, on the above gas/diesel, electronic and hydraulic systems using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and test devices. Equipment and tools used include hand tools and specialized equipment such as torque wrenches, test devices such as volt-ohm meters and amperages meters, pressure test equipment and tachometers.

  • Repairs and/or fabricates parts for special tools as needed.

  • Evaluates needs and locates and orders parts for inventory as needed.

  • Responds to field repair requests as needed and performs necessary repairs on site or may diagnose and arrange appropriate contracted service for s o me.

  • Maintains shop tools and equipment including stationery and portable power tools.

  • Operates all vehicles and equipment for test purposes and, under extenuating circumstances, can operate any vehicle in the field as emergency back-up to other Maintenance IV staff or other operators.

Coordinates and develops the training program for G olf staff in the safe and proper operation and use of equipment and vehicles.

  • Assesses needs for and purchases training materials and oversees and delivers training in accordance with OSHA standards.

  • Trains and oversees staff in safe operation of stationery (shop) and portable power tools used in golf maintenance operations.

  • Develops, prepares and delivers mandatory trailer training for all G olf staff.

  • Researches and makes recommendations for changes in policies and procedures.

Oversees maintenance and monitors work in progress for G olf course areas, including ordering supplies and equipment; ensuring shop facility is kept in a safe and clean condition; and checking out and tracking use of tools and equipment.

  • Trains others in the safe and proper use of tools and equipment.

  • Ensures that staff is properly completing preventative maintenance.

  • Ensures that staff is reporting damaged and malfunctioning equipment.

  • Monitors and assess equipment while in the field for proper operation and use.

Coordinates the maintenance and servicing of Golf fleet vehicles. This includes the following:

  • Schedules and tracks repair work and maintenance of Golf fleet vehicles, including scheduling and tracking repair work and routine maintenance as well as major repairs.

  • Tracks and reports fleet usage data.

  • In coordination with Golf Supervisor monitors divisional budget for fleet and equipment and performs analysis of related expenses.

  • Performs analysis of Fleet related expenses and activity including the use of computer data bases and amortization schedules.

Coordinates and completes general Golf maintenance activities as assigned or when needed. This may include the following:

  • Performs trash removal, vandalism repair and graffiti removal.

  • Performs snow removal duties utilizing a variety of equipment.

  • Performs repairs to shelters, fences, benches, drinking fountains, and retaining walls using a variety of carpentry, welding, and electrical and plumbing skills.

Maintains equipment files and documents work performed and parts needed .

  • Makes recommendations regarding Golf equipment/materials purchases and coordinates purchasing process with Golf Supervisor .

  • Assists with the Departmental Asset Management Program in regard to fleet and equipment .

  • Checks new equipment/materials against bid specifications and performs thorough inspections and tests .

  • Ensures that tracking software is current and updated on a regular basis.

Is alert to conditions and events indicating possible misuse of or damage to Golf vehicles and/or equipment and reports any such information to the appropriate staff .

Other:

  • Performs related duties as required by management to meet the needs of the city.

  • Assists other departments with mechanical skills as needed.

  • Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and reports all accidents and damage to city property.

  • Responsible for knowing and complying with all City and departmental policies; and participating in professional training and development.

  • Performs all duties in an ethical and objective manner with both the public's and the citys employees' interest in mind.

  • Must be able to work in a changing environment with the focus towards the delivery of enhanced customer service and utilization of resources in a safe and effective manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Specialized knowledge of automotive test equipment, including computerized test devices; proficiency in the use of MIG welding equipment, and related mechanic tools; strong mechanical aptitude; knowledge of online maintenance and parts manuals, as demonstrated by completion of applicable training courses.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical.

  • Ability to stand, kneel, and bend frequently and for extended periods of time; and ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and in unpleasant conditions where air contamination, vibration, noise, inclement weather, unclean conditions, confined space, and potentially dangerous heights exist .

  • Upper body strength to lift and carry items weighting up to 50 pounds .

  • Willingness and ability to work alternate shift schedules, irregular hours, extended shift hours, weekends, evenings, holidays, and/or emergencies as required .

  • Ability to work independently as well as harmoniously with other employees .

  • Willingness and ability to use personal protective equipment as required .

  • Ability to follow all applicable OSHA regulations.

  • Valid drivers license and ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record .

  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five (5) or more years of on-the-job experience working as a mechanic in a formal automotive repair facility.

  • Two (2) or more years of experience of mowing reel technology and ability to use specialized grinders for reels and bedknives .

  • Two (2) or more years of on-the-job" experience working with hydraulic systems.

  • Two (2) or more years of experience with budgeting and budget reading skills.

  • Two (2) or more years of experience working with 36V, 48V, 72V battery systems.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent .

  • At least two (2) years of on the job experience working as a mechanic in a formal automotive repair facility.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person.

  • Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials, and to operate automotive test equipment and related mechanic equipment .

  • Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate automotive test equipment and related mechanic equipment, computer equipment and other office equipment .

  • Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an automotive repair facility and outdoors .

  • Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines and changing priorities and conditions.

  • Works in an automotive repair facility and in outdoor setting in all weather conditions, including inclement weather. Conditions include air contamination, vibration, and noise .

  • Standard office equipment including personal computers, telephones, calculators and copy/fax machines .

  • Assorted precision and non-precision hand tools and power tools. Welding equipment, computerized engine control systems, diagnostic equipment, air conditioning diagnosis / service unit, vehicle lifts, overhead cranes, and forklift.
