TITLE:

Project Engineer

REPORTS TO:

Engineering Manager

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The individual will manage assigned Aerospace and Imaging design or build to print projects to include initial hands-on design through final manufacturing. The individual will have extensive communication with vendors, customers, production control, sales, quality and manufacturing personnel. The individual will also be assigned process engineering related projects which are not product specific, but focus on processes and/or equipment development or improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Completes hands on design and process engineering of assigned Aerospace and Imaging projects.
  • Manages the projects from conception to production by interfacing with the customer on design, development, engineering, and technical customer contact related issues including drawings, manufacturing instructions, bill of materials, bill of operations, quality plans and other items necessary to produce a high quality product.
  • Model and create drawings using 3D CAD (SolidWorks or Catia).
  • Develops or assists in tooling conceptualization and design process.
  • Develops Bills of Material (BOM's) and Operational Instructions (BOO's) for the manufacture of components.
  • Interfaces with other design and process engineers assigned to projects.
  • Plan, execute and manage testing as requires.
  • Manages the first article inspection efforts.
  • Maintains relationships with key composite vendors.
  • Keeps workspace well organized and neat using 5S procedures.
  • Participates in and supports continuous improvement activities throughout the company.
  • Participates in improving work processes and decreasing failure costs.
  • Provides technical support to external vendors and internal manufacturing.
  • Assists in training employees to accurately perform job functions affiliated with assigned projects.
  • Complies with all of the company's policies, procedures and work rules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's of Science degree in a Mechanical, Aerospace or Structural Engineering or a minimum of ten years experience in a related position and field with a minimum of two years of aerospace experience preferred.
  • Must have understanding and familiarity with composites in the design and production environment.
  • Must have understanding of process specifications and drawing interpretation related to composites design and manufacturing.
  • Must have proficiency utilizing 3D CAD systems for design projects. Creative design experience preferred.
  • Must possess some experience in project management.
  • Must possess excellent verbal, written, listening and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized and be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have ability to use a personal computer and all peripheral hardware and be able to master all software programs required in position.
  • Must be able to learn to safely operate all necessary office equipment
  • Must be able to communicate about the products and services offered by the company to potential/current customers and or vendors.
  • Must have the ability to set and modify priorities in order to meet the changing organizational needs
  • Must be team oriented and have a commitment to provide internal/external customer satisfaction
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
  • Must be able to work additional hours on all shifts, and weekends if necessary
  • Must be able to travel to customers, vendors and occasional trade shows when required for the needs of the business
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug/alcohol screening test as well as a physical examination that will assess applicable physical abilities needed to perform essential elements of the job
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands inherent in this job description
