Main Duties & Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY:
Install or repair electrical systems, apparatus and electrical andelectronic components of industrial machinery, equipment or facilities. Investigate complex electrical, electronic, and associated mechanicalproblems or breakdowns and make diagnosis based upon findings and definecorrective action necessary. Troubleshoots or reworks electrical,electronic, or pneumatic control systems.
This Job Classification shallmaintain Level 2 in the relevant skills for the Electrician classification onthe skills matrix.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under minimal supervision or review performsthe following. Other duties may be assigned as necessitated by Companyproduction requirements.
- Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment.
- Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
- Plan layouts and install wiring and conduit as well as lighting fixtures, switches, outlets and other electrical devices that require hard wiring to the facility power supply.
- Plan layouts and install telephone wiring and communications cables such as data processing lines etc., that require running inside walls, above ceiling or below floor.
- Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, pneumatic controls and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires, cables or other parts necessary to correct the malfunction. Performs troubleshooting or rework of electrical, electronic or pneumatic control systems. Able to use schematics and ladder diagrams in either electronic and/or printed format to determine issues, test components, and adjust parameters to help verify diagnosis.
- Test malfunctioning machinery and discuss malfunction with other maintenance workers as necessary to achieve consensus on the required course of action to repair the problem.
- Replaces faulty electrical components of machines or equipment such as relays, switches, and motors.
- Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components such as printed circuit boards, I/O cards, power supplies, controllers, HDMI, and other components.
Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors - Monitors and tests electrical and electronic components as needed to maintain proper working order and avoid production delays.
- Performs other maintenance trade work as required such as plumbing, carpentry, etc. when electrical workload is low
Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building, and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, etc. of the department. Uses interpersonal skills as well as good written and verbal communications. Assists other department members as required - Keeps work area and shop clean. Disposes of packaging, scrap wire, conduit, and trash appropriately.
Conducts and tracks spare part inventory. - Updates work in maintenance computer management system.
Equipment/Process Responsibilities -
Performs duties on equipment,building, and grounds. Performs preventative maintenance tasks andbreakdown repairs. Maintains own tool kit and advises supervision as to whenspecial tools for particular tasks need purchase or replacement.
Material or Product Responsibilities - Performs dutiesthat require close attention to work, supporting documentation specificationsand other requirements of basic electrical principles. Responsible for properfunctioning of electrical and electronic components necessary to the efficientoperation of production machines and equipment
Responsibility for Work of Others - Accuracy ofcommunication is mandatory to successful installation and/or repair ofelectric-related items. Must be able to communicate to appropriate personnelany problems or concerns regarding quality, safety or timeliness of workrequired, or components, tools or equipment issues. Must be able to train employees of equal orlower classification in electrical methods and procedures used by the company
Safety Responsibilities - Goodhousekeeping, adherence to National Electric Code, as well as compliance with companysafety rules is required.
Initiative and Ingenuity -
Requiresinitiative in maintaining all electric-related items. Makes suggestions forimproving machines, equipment, lighting, wiring, etc. Uses ingenuity inplanning, layout and devising proper installations or repairs. Takes on orreports for additional work as current tasks are completed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
EnvironmentalSurroundings - Work is in a machine shop environment where noise, temperaturefluctuations, etc. are less desirable than in a typical office environment. Work may be performed outdoors in all types of weatherdepending on circumstances.
Unavoidable Hazards - Possiblehazards related to cuts, bruises, electrical burns and/or shock, finger andhand injuries and muscle strains. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, high electrical voltage,metalworking fluids and
airborne particles. Some confined space workand work on ladders or elevated positions where falls are a risk. Protectivesafety wear and equipment should be worn as appropriate to the task at hand.
EFFORT
Physical - Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Requires hand and finger manipulation to operate hand and power tools, instruments, and/or install variouscomponents such as wiring, conduit, switches, relays etc.,necessary to installations and repairs required by job duties.Must be able to reach, bend .stretch, kneel, stoop, crawland climb, and work in confined spaces such as attics, crawl spaces etc. Job assignments may require standing, sitting, working on a ladder,or in a confinedspace for periods exceeding 15 minutes at a time
Mental - Reasoning ability required to interpret complex blueprints, drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, etc. Must be able to drawconclusions from a variety of abstract and concrete variables.Required to organize work tasks for best efficiency.
Visual - Close attention to detail with moderate eye concentration for extended periods of time. Able to read precision instruments.Requires close and distance vision, peripheral vision, colorvision, and depth perception.
Pay Range: $29.93 to $36.09 LG 10
Qualifications
EDUCATION/TRAINING
Demonstrated ability to read and write English of a level required in Company shop documents and computer software entry and processing requirements as well as technical manuals. Must be capable of applying mathematical operations using fractions, decimals, algebra, and geometry as required by essential job duties. Generally equivalent to journeyman trade school graduate or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
Requires 4 years at journeyman level or equivalentskills and knowledge expertise in facility and industrial machine electricinstallations and repairs which are necessary tofulfill job requirements. Must have a journeyman's working knowledgeof the National Electrical Code. Must read precision measuring instrumentssuch as various gauges, meters, calipers and micrometers as well as wiringdiagrams, machine schematics, blueprints and other documentation
