Summary Organization Summary Statement:
The Department of Residential Facilities is responsible for maintaining and housekeeping services for the College Park Campus' 70+ residence halls, Greek chapter houses, and recreational facilities, which encompass over 2.7 million square feet. The department employs over 300 exempt, non-exempt, and student staff.

Primary Responsibilities:
The Multi Trades Supervisor II position will serve as a supervisor for the community maintenance program in various residential areas. The Supervisor will oversee and evaluate daily work plans and execute preventative maintenance programs completed by their front-line staff throughout the year. Some of the responsibilities of our community maintenance supervisor will include assigning activities to their staff, training, daily supervision, evaluation of the operations, assigning maintenance tasks, and the performance of skilled and unskilled labor. The community maintenance supervisor will supervise 7 or more employees and maintain and repair a wide range of equipment in their assigned residential areas.

Valid Driver's license with less than 6 points is required.

Preferences:
Experience in the supervision of mechanical trades is preferred.

Physical Demands:
The incumbent will be required to work from ladders or scaffolding; to work in, on, around, over, and under fixed equipment and machinery; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 50 lbs.
Position requires the following physical activities: kneeling, stooping, climbing, walking, and lifting.
Will work in hazardous or irritating environments, un-air-conditioned spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
This position may require the incumbent to exercise sustained physical activity in demonstrating or assisting in completing a relatively wide range of maintenance tasks.
The incumbent will be required to drive a state vehicle to inspect work and may be required to shovel snow and handle snow-moving equipment (snowblowers, plows) as part of essential responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED AND Seven years progressively responsible experience in the trade(s) where assigned to include at least four years in a lead or supervisory capacity.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the methods and techniques of the trade(s) where assigned; of the OSHA regulations related to the trade(s) area. Thorough knowledge of and skill in the practical application of electronics, hydraulics, and mechanics as used in maintenance work; of basic mathematics including area, volume, weights and the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions; of the principles of supervision in the maintenance trades. Skill in the care and storage of equipment and supplies used in the area(s) where assigned; in the use and maintenance of the tools and equipment of the trade(s) where assigned; in reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints, schematics, drawings, and specifications. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to supervise and train skilled and unskilled employees in assigned trade(s) work; to plan and organize maintenance work; to determine sufficiency of cost estimates prepared by others; to prepare specifications for tools, equipment, materials, and supplies; to prepare summaries and reports; to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from ladders and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

OTHER:

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • This position requires an on-site presence.

  • The position is eligible to work a flexible schedule of five 8-hour days, 7:30 am-4:00 pm (Monday through Friday) or four 10-hour days, 7:30 am6:00 pm , with varied days off.

  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.

  • The position is an essential employee related to catastrophic weather or other emergencies. The employee may be required to come to work, including overtime, when the University is closed to perform general maintenance/clean-up tasks as needed.
