JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for supporting solar and energy storage projects as the power conversion system (inverter) subject matter expert. The goal of this position is to ensure solar and energy storage projects in execution/construction and the development pipeline meet Leeward's technical and business requirements while maintaining our long-term ownership focus.
As a member of the Subject Matter Expert engineering team, the successful candidate will provide technical advisory and other engineering support associated with inverters for solar and energy storage projects. The successful candidate should be familiar with the major suppliers of power conversion equipment in the solar and energy storage industry and have knowledge of the primary technical differences between products and market segments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and maintain solar and energy storage inverter technical specifications
Provide Subject Matter Expert support to procurement and project engineers for inverter RFPs and technical specifications
Perform technical due diligence for selection of power conversion technology options for solar and energy storage plants
Work with product manufacturers to evaluate product design and expected reliability and managing relationships with applicable manufacturers
Evaluate inverters with respect to relevant codes and standards
Perform technical res to assess detailed aspects of inverter design including design of the power conversion stack, modeling of thermal behavior, modeling of control algorithms, and the ability to make recommendations on testing to validate product performance
Work collaboratively with project engineering and operations team members for inverter design res, parameter settings, modeling, and technical interfaces
Re inverter manufacturing facilities for compliance with quality/safety procedures and new products
Participate in constructability res and re inverter commissioning and testing reports
Travel to project sites for inverter reliability evaluations and/or failure root cause analysis
QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity evaluating products for compliance with UL 1741, IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, IEC 62109 and other relevant industry standards
Familiarity with designing or evaluating products for compliance with North American standards, including NEC and knowledge of equivalent international standards for power converters
General knowledge of solar and energy storage plant system design
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate ideas to non-engineers.
Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment
4-Year bachelor's degree in electronics or electrical engineering, with emphasis on power conversion systems - Preferred
EE II - Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience in design, application engineering, testing, deployment, or product support of solar and/or storage power conversion technologies - Preferred
EE III - Minimum of 6 years of relevant engineering experience in design, application engineering, testing, deployment, or product support of solar and/or storage power conversion technologies - Preferred
Physical Demands:
Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%
Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing at project locations in order to inspect and repair equipment or collect information.
