The Director of Construction Claims will oversee the administration and documentation of all claims resulting from our legacy, current and future development and construction activities. This position will report into the Senior Vice President, Construction Risk Management and will be based in our New York office.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Be primary contact for all internal and external claim related matters, including
- Coordination with internal stakeholders on appropriate and timely reporting of incidents/claims; ensure all claims are reported to the appropriate insurer(s) and notice is provided to internal constituents as necessary; and verify timely TPA/insurer responses
- Coordinate with site personnel regarding claims reporting, and investigation protocols
- Initial response regarding defense and investigation assignments
- Discovery, and litigation inquiries
- Communication with defense counsel, insurer/TPA regarding strategies around reserving, resolution, settlement and authorization
- Manage claim strategy and resolution including coordination with defense counsel, brokers, insurers/TPA in consideration of policy coverage terms, deductibles and aggregates
- Conduct regular claim file reviews to revisit progress and resolution strategy
- Track erosion of policy limits and deductible aggregates
- Review and analyze claim data and prepare executive summaries identifying any opportunities or challenges
- Assist in claim recovery from downstream parties, as needed
- Participate in regular meetings to discuss material developments associated with Related’s loss profile with Related’s executive team, captive manager and actuaries
- Participate in insurance placement discussion with brokers and underwriters
- Identify and recommend risk mitigation efforts
- Work with internal stakeholders to ensure delivery of various audit requirements
Compensation
- $160,000 - $180,000 / year
- Annual performance based bonus
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years in the risk management and/or insurance claim industry with experience with resolving claims from General Liability (particularly New York Labor Law 240), Workers’ Compensation, Builder’s Risk, Pollution and Professional Liability
- Familiarity with construction operations
- Familiarity with captive insurance companies
- Professional relationships with various insurance providers, claims administrators and defense counsel (particularly in New York)
- Ability to analyze complex problems involving varying viewpoints and to develop viable solutions
- Ability to multitask, adapt to changing developments, and communicate clearly
- Superior interpersonal skills
- Ease in working with people up and down the organization hierarchy
