Navy. You will be part of a team that works closely with the customer and other Serco team members to deliver quality work performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships.

Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work for our Navy customer by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Navy and the Military. You will join an active team to perform general manual labor to support this critical mission.

As a Marine Welder, you will join, fabricate, and assemble various assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques and the work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations. You will also play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations, which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.

In this role, you will:

  • Perform recurring work independently which is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions including troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions.
  • Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement.
  • Select, set up and operate standard test equipment and record test data.
  • Construct components, subunits, or simple models or adapt standard equipment.
  • Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests and drawings.
  • Perform computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plots data and draws simple curves and graphs.
  • Perform tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operate and adjusts simple test equipment and record test data.
  • Interpret specifications, drawings, blueprints, shop job orders and, process sheets
  • Use a variety of ARC and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as foundations, cable collars, cable/pipe/vent hangers, cable tubes penetrations, studs, etc.
  • Perform related task such as thermal cutting (PLASMA or TORCH) and grinding
  • Use your knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the welding
  • May train new shop personnel on machinery, tools and test equipment required for quality construction of products
  • Assign work to qualified personnel

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • A minimum of 5 years of welding experience.
  • Must have extensive shipboard experience.
  • Ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification.
  • Must be certified in the following process: GMAW, SMAW, or FCAW
  • Must have own tools of the trade and able to pass precertification company weld test: FCAW-S 3F/4F sheet metal and GMAW-P 5F
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation & gain access to various military facilities and shipyards.
  • Must be able to supervise a small team of 5-10 lower level employees while reporting to a manager.
  • Must be able to have the ability to work in areas with drafts, noise, and temperature variation.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25%

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • An active Secret security clearance
