Design Engineer

Job Description

Collaborate with the wire engineering and production team to design, prototype, test, and scale up new wire products. Select appropriate materials and construction configurations, and help develop new manufacturing processes to create innovative products. Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, quality control plans, manufacturing instructions, and Bills of Materials (BOMs). Develop test plans for qualification at independent labs to industry specifications, including electrical, thermal, and mechanical analysis to ensure product performance and compliance. Participate in failure analysis and root cause investigations related to cable performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design and prototype new wire products in collaboration with engineering and production teams.
  • Select materials such as conductors, platings, insulations, shields, and jackets.
  • Develop new manufacturing processes to produce innovative products.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, QC plans, manufacturing instructions, and BOMs.
  • Develop test plans for qualification to industry specifications, including electrical, thermal, and mechanical analysis.
  • Participate in failure analysis and root cause investigations related to cable performance.
Essential Skills
  • Cable and wire design expertise.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D design and simulation tools.
  • Experience with testing, extrusion, and braiding.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in wire and cable product design and development.
  • Understanding of cable materials, electrical properties, insulation types, shielding techniques, and manufacturing processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Knowledge of extrusion, braiding, taping, or sintering manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with testing and certification standards from organizations such as SAE, NEMA, NAVAIR, NAVSEA, and DLA.
Work Environment

Fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
