POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for performing the operations of Blaster, Scaler, Driller, Bolter, and Loader. At times, this position will operate the Grader, Haul Truck and Water Truck. The incumbent should operate all equipment in a safe and most efficient manner while making every attempt to keep up with whatever rate is needed to keep raw material feed for continuous operation of the plant, mining operations, stockpiling, or material hauling. Individuals in this role are responsible for keeping a clean and safe workplace and letting management know promptly of any hazards that the incumbent may encounter at the operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

Blaster/Explosives Handler

  • Perform required workplace and equipment pre-shift inspections and document.
  • Operate any machines needed to transport and load explosives in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Minimize blasting inefficiencies by making sure explosives are properly loaded and delayed.
  • Make work areas are safe by hand scaling as needed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Accurately account and document explosive articles usage, loss, and inventory daily.
  • Obtain, maintain and/or work towards gaining a Tennessee Blasting License.
  • Perform preventive and light maintenance on equipment as needed.
  • Tell the Mine Supervisor and Manager of safety hazards.

Scaler

  • Inspect work area before entering.
  • Perform required workplace and equipment pre-shift inspections and document.
  • Service and lubricate equipment as required including maintenance of fluid levels.
  • Scale down all rock in work areas.
  • Assist the maintenance team members as directed.

Driller

  • Inspect work area before entering.
  • Perform required workplace and equipment pre-shift inspections and document.
  • Operate drill in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Lubricate drill and compressor while maintaining all fluid levels on drill and compressor.
  • Maintain adequate supply of drill bits and steel to operate drill on shift.
  • Assist the maintenance team members as directed.

Roof Bolter

  • Inspect work area before entering and installing bolts.
  • Perform required workplace and equipment pre-shift inspections and document.
  • Operate roof bolter in a safe and efficient manner according to what is specified.
  • Make up bolts and deliver to work area.
  • Stock roof bolter carousel with bolts.
  • Maintain record of work performed.
  • Manage the tracking of bolting supplies and report needs to Mine Supervisor.
  • Maintain roof bolter through proper greasing of boom components and lubrication of scaling rig.
  • Assist the maintenance team in repair of roof bolter.

Loader Operator

  • Inspect work area before entering.
  • Perform required workplace and equipment pre-shift inspections and document.
  • Perform required loader work that is necessary to continue operations including cleaning out headings and/or loading haul trucks.
  • Perform preventive and light maintenance on equipment as needed.

Additional Heavy Equipment

  • Safely and efficiently operate additional mobile equipment such as the Haul Truck, Water Truck, Grader, and any additional equipment on which trained.

Safety

  • Comply with company, state, and governmental health and safety regulations.
  • Comply with company General Conduct and Safety Rules. Tell the Maintenance Manager, Mine Manager, or Mine Foreman of safety hazards, repairs, or help that is needed to operate the plant in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform and documents pre-shift inspections and document them.
  • Report any unsafe condition found during pre-shift inspections.
  • Operate the plant within its means to help minimize issues that could occur from break downs and plug up.

Safe Quality Food (SQF)

  • Ensure a SQF workplace and follow regulatory compliance with Federal FDA Food Modernization Safety Act (CFR Code of Federal Regulations Title 21, Part 507).
  • Support Environmental Health and Safety, as well as SQF initiatives and awareness programs.
  • Be a leader and promoter of employee safety and SQF culture.
  • Following completion of SQF training, demonstrate understanding of expected safety, SQF performance and Food Safety Culture.
  • Complete periodic SQF training(s).
  • Each site location will ensure training is conducted for new employees and continued for existing employees.
  • Employees will actively participate in audits for regulatory, safety, SQF and environmental compliance at the site.

Perform other duties as assigned.

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Must be capable of working any shift, overtime, be on-call, or work seven days a week, if needed.
  • Must be able to multitask with a strong sense of urgency to meet the customer needs.
  • Must be able to work well within a team environment and take instructions from management and co-workers.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Must possess the basic reading and math skills.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess basic computer skills on how to use MS Office products and SAP and JWS Shipping System
  • Strong record of attendance reliability.
  • Must know, understand, and observe all department and plant safety rules and maintain a high level of housekeeping in assigned work areas.
  • Must be capable of performing the essential job duties required of this job.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Will be working at times in covered environment but mainly in mining environment.
  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Mineral Particles.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting.
  • Ability to consistently lift over 50 pounds as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma, GED Equivalent, or demonstrated skills or ability.

PREFFERED EDUCATION:

  • Technical training or AA degree in technical related field is desired.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous heavy manufacturing and/or mining experience is highly preferred.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 3 years of experience
