Who are we looking for?

Our Western Canada Transportation Team is looking for an Intermediate Roadway Engineer with design, coordination and project management experience who is ready to be part of our growth. This role can be based in our Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver office.

The Transportation Group within GHD Canada works with Provincial, Regional, and local municipalities, as well as select contracting partners and owners, on small to large scale projects across the whole Transportation spectrum of highways, roads and bridges, transit and multi-modal infrastructure, and transportation planning. Our team provides integrated transportation services throughout the project lifecycle from initial policy, transportation economics and business case advice, through concept, environmental assessment, detailed design and construction administration.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of opportunities and will see you involved in:

  • Successful participation in, and completion of roadway, highway, transit and active transportation projects under the guidance of senior team members
  • Oversee or produce design work in an integrated 3D environment that focuses on quality and meets or exceeds company and industry quality standards
  • Applying technical knowledge and coordination skills to solve problems on complex multi-disciplinary projects
  • Act as a technical lead for a defined scope of work
  • Coordination with multiple business groups within GHD, subconsultants and external agencies
  • Lead or contribute to the development of proposals
  • Being a trusted mentor to more junior team members with the potential to supervise their performance and career development

Candidates career experiences may consist of:

  • Experience in creating conceptual and detailed design models and producing related drawings for various transportation projects, including roads, highways, bus rapid transit, and active transportation
  • Carried out project coordination or project management tasks, including project planning, scheduling, financial controls, monthly reporting, deliverable tracking and team coordination
  • Working as a team, receiving mentorship and guidance from Senior staff, and providing mentorship and supervision and oversight of Junior staff
  • Large and small team collaboration. Communication with other disciplines, sub-consultants, municipalities, utility companies, stakeholders and clients
  • Experience and working knowledge of corridors modelling with InRoads/OpenRoads and/or Civil 3D
  • Experience and working knowledge of AutoTURN or Autodesk Vehicle tracking
  • Strong experience with geometric design, including alignments, profiles, corridor modeling, and cross section development
  • Good understanding of geometric design principles i.e. TAC Geometric Guidelines, BC Supplement to TAC, Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD), BC Manual of Standard Traffic Signs and Pavement Markings
  • Assist with the development of specifications, cost estimates, technical reports and tender documents
  • Coordinate with the design team to achieve quality deliverables within the established schedule and budget
  • Experience in design delivery within both conventional and alternative project delivery models is considered an asset

What you will bring to the team:

  • 5-10 years' experience in the transportation sector.
  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer/Technologist registered or eligible for registration in Alberta or British Columbia
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written), with the ability to interact effectively within all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion
  • Experience managing multiple tasks while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail in a demanding consulting environment
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate work in order to meet required deadlines while complying with procedures and best practices.
  • Experience with Construction Administration & Inspection are considered assets
  • Interest or experience with new design tools and technologies such as BIM platforms, design programming, visualizations and automation are considered assets

Salary Range: $79,200 -.$118,000, based on experience.
