The City of Pasadena Water and Power Department is seeking an experienced Electrical Mechanic with expertise in electrical construction across a variety of systems, including service and power substations, power plant transformers, and water pump facilities.

- Installs substation electrical equipment including erecting structural steel for switching stations; completes unit substations inclusive of switching gear, control panels and other equipment.
- Installs high voltage transformers, potential transformer, controllers, control wiring, relays, meters and switches.
- Maintains and overhauls large power transformers and load tap changers; installs medium and high voltage oil, SF6 and vacuum circuit breakers.
- Reads blueprints, control writing diagrams, and schematics in connection with installation and wiring of electrical equipment.
- Performs rigging to move equipment by crane or moves equipment by hand; bends and threads conduit, installs, connects, and insulates high voltage conductors.
- Inspects, maintains, and overhauls power plant and substation electrical equipment including main generators, voltage regulators, motor generator sets, installs and maintains air disconnect switches; performs diagnostic testing on related electrical equipment and filters.
- Degas/dehydrates and reclaims old electrical circuits without the benefit of drawings.
- Installs and maintains the department fiber optic system, SCADA system and telephone system; enters data into the Cascade work management system.
- Drives to locations to inspect work done by contractors to insure property installation and conformance to standards.
- Prepares written reports and maintains records electronically or in paper form.
- Performs other related work as required.

- Successful attainment of Journeyman Utility Electrical Mechanic (or equivalent class) status through successful completion of a State of California approved Utility Electrical Mechanic apprentice program.

Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
